Sparks style FCR39. When you take the bell off (yes this one is removable) there are 2 jets. One has a spring under it and I seem to remember there being an adjustment to this. I couldn't find the post where I read it though....I think it was from when Hollywood was trying to dial in his carb.
Anyway it seems like I remember 1/4 turn out.

Can somebody please advise?

Nevermind........found it. This is what I was looking for:

"you should adjust your main air conversion needle it should be at a 1/4 turn for a 45 pilot. it is located inside the intake bell. that is what the first gen FCR's had as some what of a leak jet. I have a Sudco carb that I was about to throw away because i couldnt stop it from bogging and backfiring. Installed the right main and the right pilot turned the screws where they needed to be and this thing run like a champ, very little if any bog at all".

So I cleaned everything again. Still have not removed the slide but I can't see how there is anything in the top up ther that would make it run the way it is. I have removed every jet and shot brake cleaner (diaphram removed)through every hole and orifice on the carb.
I adjusted the "main air conversion needle" to one quarter turn out as referenced above.
I have not pluged the leak hole.....I call it that cuz there is no jet, just the hole.

Start it up......idles pretty darn good. Wick the throttle, sometimes hesitates and sometimes not. What it does do is stumble. If I hold the throttle in any position from 1/4 to pretty much full it runs rough and stumbles. I can tell it will friggin scream if I can just get it right...!!
What do I need to do? A guy that works on my buddy's yfz said go smaller on both the main and pilot. He said 162/42
HELP ME!

Current settings:
165 Main....have tried 170 and 175, same
45 Pilot
60 on that other jet that's on the other side of the main jet.
Needle @ 2nd clip....running the same as it was at 3rd clip.
1-1/2 out on fuel screw
1/4 turn on the main air conversion needle
Rest of the mods can be found below

I haven't tried the stock carb back on it yet but did plug in the stock cdi. I am going to run it with the stock carb tomorrow morning just to check.

UPDATE TO ABOVE:

Found enough time to slap the old carb on before leaving.........It doesn't run a whole lot better. Maybe i need bigger jets or to go way up on the needle. I guess I am getting a TON more air now with the intake. I have a 185 for the Kiehn, maybe I'll try that and open the fuel screw to like 2.5?
Looking for suggestions....

I guess I'll reply to my own thread again....
I was wrong about how it ran with the stock carb. When I ran it yesterday it was just in N. I ran it up and down the street and it runs fine with the old carb/new intake. I would think that it has to be a little lean but it ran real good.

So now I'm back to figuring out the new carb. I never did do the run with the choke on or filter off or partially blocked so I will experiment with that. For some reason I think it is not an issue with jetting......

The diaphram looks OK but what if it was leaking a little? What symptomes would that cause?

Slide plate.... icon_eek.gif hell if I know.

When I got this thing it had a 185 main and was 2nd clip on the needle. I figured the whole time that would be too much on the main. I just stuck the 185 back in and it ran pretty much the same.
Then I moved the needle all the way down with the clip at the top and it is running better. The more I've rode it the more it seems that my issues are somewhere in the first 3/4 then it pulls real hard.
Should I try a smaller pilot jet....?

145 pilot, and a 60 on the other one? did you mean you have a 45 pilot in there now, or are you looking at the starter jet? I really can't remember what the stock starter jet is since I haven't been in there for a while.

The needle is the midrange but try one size of a smaller pilot and see if it helps. I believe I am running around a 50 pilot though...

yeah, it was supposed to be 45 pilot.....and I agree, it doesn't seem like I should be going down on the pilot.

185 main
45 pilot
1st clip on the needle
2.5 turns out on the fuel screw..............that's what really got it going. Somewhere in that combo it got better beginning with the needle then when I turned the fuel screw out to 2.5 it ran real good.
Talked to Garrett at FCI today and that was really the only thing he suggested. It made a big difference.

Now I need to get it on their dyno to fine tune it...
