Well I put up some more info later in a different thread, but I have a rallycross race on the 15th for my 92 buick century wagon
Does anyone know how to hook it up, or where I can get a free wiring diagram? |

what are the color wires off the distributor?? i know on my s10s it was always the pink wire. oh and for a v6 you have tocut one of the small wires on the backof the tach... dont know if i would do that those are a biotch to get backtogether..

yeah i know i have to cut either the brown or the orange i just haven't looked much into that part of it yet, just looking for the tach feed wire. I'm not even really sure if I want it on the camaro, because I'd rather just have one in the dash anyways but we'll see.
i'm about to go back outside so i'll check the colors coming out and post them later tonight. your s10 was a 3.1 though right? |

starting from the left of the plug its pink, white/black, white/pink, black/red, light blue, blue/white, purple/white, orange/black, white.
its so confusing. you said pink. another site said for a 3.1 century it was either white or purple/white. and another site for a 3.1 cavalier said purple/white too. do u have access to wiring diagrams at ur work and could double check for me? |

is it an HEI distributor or does it have coil packs?
from my experience if its HEI its the all white wire, should only be four wires if its HEI if it has coil packs i think you have to tap into two wires for the signal and run a special splitter to get the tach to read right. |

from what i can tell it has coil packs. which means i would just connect to the negative side of it. is white always the negative?

white is usually negative on gm's. BUT, having coil packs means it has THREE, correct? if so this could be complicated as it probably has a redundant firing system. you can plug it into the main negative side for all of the coils and it will read on the tach, but the problem is getting it to read CORRECTLY (my thinking may be backwards right now, it may not even be a problem at all LOL)

where exactly is the coil than? I'm used to HEI's with the nice tach output right there on the plug. I'll go take a snapshot of what I'm looking at

yea, no distributor on that car, all coil packs like I thought. just by looking at that blue plug (assuming that its the main power stuff) I have no idea which one you need to hook in to, there is power/ground for each coil. Never hooked up a tach to a car with individual coil packs. IIRC you might have to run a splitter or something.

i wouldnt go jackin with the ecm kev.
Find the ground side or signal wire on the module, uner the coil packs. it should still be a white wire. For the dude who said its pink, wrong You can hook it to pink and see how long it lasts... but it wont be long. It's always the ground side, which is normally white on gm. also they make a signal wire that clamps over the plug wire. I'm not a fan of that style but it would get you going. |

i'm going out in a little bit to finish some body work, i'll take a few more looks at it. I don't feel like blowing up my tach, and I really don't need it either it'd just be sweet.
