By looking at the other threads, putting a tether/kill switch on your quad seems very difficult. Well I'm about to make it very easy.

The 'open or closed' thing essentially means you either a)ground 1 wire and splice the other into the coil or b) loop BOTH wires into the coil.

Let me tell you where the coil is; the coil is the black, roundish thing under your gas tank. Take your tank off and it is directly under the front of it. There is a ground on the left side(shifter side), and a 90 degree spade connector on the right(brake side) with an annoying plastic cover on it.

If you bought the Maier one suggested on douggust.com(part #96956), you will need to take the black wire that has a 90 degree angle to it off of the brake side of the coil and splice BOTH wires from the tether(black and white) into it. With this killswitch, you do not ground either wire. Think of it this way; you are just making a loop with the tether wires into the coil wire. Make sure you cut the wire on the coil back away from the spade far enough to strip it and insert it into the supplied butt connectors. There is not enough wire on this tether, so make sure you have extra 18 gauge wire to do this. I also had to grind down the mounting plate in order to get it to fit on my handlebars. I mounted it with the right bolt closest to the seat in between the handlebar clamp. The bolt went thru the hole on the tether and I tightened it down which made the handlebars stay still and held the tether firmly in place.

I hope this makes it easier, because it is very difficult to find someone with a Z in Lake Whitney, Tx on a Friday afternoon with no phone reception as you are trying to make the final practice, believe me!!!!! :disgust (imagine how mad I was when they didn't even check it)

Here's some pics of what I am trying to describe. This pic shows the 2 wires coming from the tether. You'll notice how I spliced into the original ones because they weren't long enough. My finger is pointing at where I spliced in to make them longer.

This pic shows how one end of the tether wire goes in one side of the coil wire and the other one goes into the other side of the coil wire. Now you have 'looped' the tether into the coil wire.

Does the pro design one work the same?

I think on the pro design you put one wire into the coil and ground the other. If I'm wrong, you won't fry anything, it just either won't start when it's in.

Not enough time to do everything!! Nationals has gotten all of my attention and most of my $ this year, plus that seems to be more for the miniquads. I haven't even been to my local series yet, every off weekend I've been fixing what I broke at nationals!! for a pro design, one goes into the positive lead off the coil and the ground goes a point on the frame. for my ground point i used the gusset like thing in the front tube of the frame in the bend above the upper shock mount.

You really should not ground the positive side of the coil. This can damage the cdi box. I have a pro design and grounded the wire from the stator to the cdi. This is the way the instructions recommended also. PM me with any questions.

Grounding the positive wire is fine with the stock c.d.i., you dont want to risk it with an expensive aftermarket c.d.i.

I have to agree with scootertrash - the correct way with a n/o switch is to hook into the GREEN wire from the stator loom (4 pin connector on left side of frame)

I did this with my kill switch and it engine still trys to turn over but ends up draining the battery as it wont start...

itll try to turn over with the end of the tether connected or disconnected???

does anyone have any ideas?

this is what a normally open switch should do, when the plug is pulled and it is wired to the coil. sounds like you bought yourself a normally closed swithch, which is better anyways. so wire it into the switch on the bars

it was one of the normally crappy ones with the little rubber booty - I got a new one (with the clip) and it works fine. those other ones are JUNK!!
