What class would I be able to race in that I won't be getting spanked without motor mods? I have full elkas all around and a full pipe. I was reading up on GNCC and it looks like the in stock class I can't have a rear shock change?
I've been wanting to do a XC race for awhile now. Is there any type of XC racing I can do with an untouched motor and full suspension mods and a pipe? I want to fit in the proper class with the noobs but don't want to have to jump classes with guys with tons of motor work just because I have suspension mods. Any help would be great.
Thanks - Mike

You are better off in the age C class.
Sport class has some very good riders. Pro-Am type talent. Which if you are just starting you would not do well.

Go to this site: www.unitedoffroadracing.com and click on the MXC link. It is a series usually put on by Bill Gusse who is by nature a sadistic individual. He likes whoops. Miles and miles of whoops. As far as class, it seems to me that I see a lot of sandbaggers in C class, but that is just my opinion, I could be wrong. The bottom line is this: finish the race, no matter what, just FINISH the race. I personally feel that the rider makes most of the difference when it comes to woods racing. You can only go so fast. Good tires, good suspension, and a dedicated rider make all the difference in the world. GNCC is a completely different ball game. Have you done any Hare Scrambles? You might like them too. I see you listed your loc as Chicago, so the UORR and also the scrambles out at FVOR www.foxvalleyoffroad.com are options for you. Good stuff. PM me if you need any more info. -later

In your signiature it says yoru from Chicago. Go check out www.amadistrict17.com You can find lots of XC races in Illinois. For most local races, being as you have a Z400 you can not run the beginners class.

Thanks a lot for the info guys.
I'm not really worried about running in the beginner class or not I've been riding for a long time. I'd like to be in a somewhat of a "Fair" race. I have suspension work and no motor mods. I'd like to be in a class that I'm not up against guys with stroker motors whipping my arse. Does such a thing exist? Or because I have full suspension mods, am I now going to be in the open classes going against guys with motor work done?

Unfortunately, in district 17 and also in the OMA, there aren't as many classes for quads as there are the two wheelers. You really only have your choice of A, B, C, Utuility, Women, +30, etc. If you go to any of the sites we mentioned before, it will give you a list of the classes and also the rules. Most like to see nerf bars and a tether switch, and numbers for AMA stuff. Go to the sites and do some reading, it should clear up a lot for you.

I race XC and it's not all about the motor! I race a Z with rev box and full yoshi system, thats about all i have done to the motor. The real goodies are all the other stuff that makes your "job" (driving) a whole lot easier. I have placed in front of lots of bikes that are faster than me, but remember it's not a drag race.
Most of these races are around 2 hours long and are very hard tracks that can be up to 12 miles long. The rider is the most important part. Trust me, once the race starts, and after the first lap you start seeing the bikes setting beside the path, or stuck, you'll know what i'm taking about. Just what I think about it.
Good Luck and GOD BLESS!
