it is pretty easy. I just got done putting in my elka yesterday.
so here we go.

1) obviously you need to put the quad on a stand or jack. I dont have a stand so I just put it on a jack

2)Remove your swing arm skid and the linkage skid. I didnt have the swinger skid and I removed the last bolt on the linkage skid.

3)Remove the lower link bolt. it is a 17mm I used a punch to slide the bolt out

Bottom most bolt
4)Rotate the link down and out of the way exposing the lower shock bolt.

5)Now remove the lower shock bolt Nut 17mm bolt head 12mm
6)Remove the top shock bolt Nut 14mm bolt head 12mm

Now the shock is loose and to make it easier to get the shock out I put the swing arm on a jack stand and pulled the shock out from the bottom. Oh for this picture tilt your head to the left.

That is how you get it out. To put it back in just reverse the order.

Top shock bolt torqued to 60 N or 43.5 lbs
Bottom shock bolt torqued to 55N or 40 lbs
Linkage bolt torqued to 78N or 56.5 lbs
And it might be a good idea to put some blue lock tight on the bolts.
Oh and while you have the swing are up grease everything.

Holler if you have any other questions.

Oh it took me a little over an hour, but that includes writing everything down and taking a picture. Good luck! z400rules.gif

thanks a bunch for your time. when i got home from work today i wound up just taking out the airbox and going through the top. when i got the airbox out just for laughs i tried to get it through the swingarm one more time and of coarse it went rite through shocker.gif disgust.gif . thats the problem i was having(getting the stock piggyback shock to fit through the swinger). after i got all done i got on the computer and read this and by then it was to late. bawling.gif

Well, Step #1 in all that is contacting the original poster.
