I'm tryin to set up a group ride at the Hatfiel McCoy trails sometime this spring. As of right now it was just a planned deal between myself, xxstevec0216xx and quad but the more i thought about it the more gettin some members that are kinda close to come out to ride with other members would be awesome! We are not sure of what week it will be so i ask for everyones opinions on what week we should do it. I'd love for a chitload of people to come but with current gas prices and the amount of members this board has and the sheer fact that we're all scattered out everywhere...that would be extremely hard to do for alot of us. I have 110 acres and 60 of it is nothing but fields so there would be plenty of room for tents, campers etc.....Would any other members be interested in coming out this way???

It's going to be a great time! I'm thinking a good way to save some money on gas would be to group up with other people in your state and split the gas cost just ride down together. If you have any question's either put it here or Pm one of us. Don't miss out on this you will regret it!

Work out a date. My riding group is planning a trip there this spring anyway. We will overrule the one guy wanting to go to Utah. Love to go, but what a drive.
Just a note. There are 2 Z's and a boat load of Honda's.

Peewee was thinking of having it the week of some super moto thingy (I sorta erased the PM) but it may be way to busy at that time. So we want to make a group decision so work and anything else can be delt with. Another thing we have to find out which I'll go look o their website is when the trails open back up after winter. Peewee isn't going to be on today so there are a few things I'm unsure about.
I just checked out their site and I can't find anything to do with them closing for winter. Here is the link if you want to check anything out.

Hatfield McCoy is incredible. Been there twice. Once on two wheels, once on four. They don't close for the winter. Open year 'round. The best place to go, in my opinion, is the town of Gilbert. You can park at the brand new convention center (complete with gym, movie theater, bathrooms, and showers), buy your tickets, and ride through town to the trailhead. You can even go through the Mcdonald's drive thru on your quad! I'm sure I can get a bunch of KY people depending on when we go. (First full week of April is Spring Break here!)

I just got back from there Oct 2. We stayed in Man and rode the trails to gilbert. We stayed a J&S Rentals. The place was bad a$$. For 8 of us it costs 45 dollars per person. They had aplace to wash your gear/Bikes. Full kitchen and shower.
You could also ride to the trail head. Which was Rock House. We hit all the Green and Blue Trails and Had a blast. One of my buddies posted some pics on another form Check them Out!!!! He is going to post more When he gets Time. We are also thinking about going back down there in the spring agian Let me know what dates. We live in Northen Va area.

kentuckycat is right, gilbert is a great place to stay either at foxes place or where i stayed which is right up the road from the convension center. hey cat, did you ride the mountain right behind the convension center? when you leave the center, come over the bridge to rt. 52 take a right, go about 3/4 of a mile, just past the bodyshop self storage facility where i stayed, and there is a road on the right that goes back over the river then under the train tracks, then take a right up in the mountain. there is loads of private land up there that everyone is welcome to (from what tom hatfield said) and even a halfazzed track in there. the boys and i went there more than the posted trails. it was great ridin down the street to the trails and gas station. i'm going to get the wife to scan in the pics and post them for ya.

Hell, I can go just about any weekend. Since I'm a teacher, I just suggested spring break so I could go on a Thursday or Friday. It's
MUCH better going during the week.
Follow, no...we just rode down 52 to the regular trailhead - the one that has all the switchbacks until you get up to the top. It was hell getting up those switchbacks on a dirt bike. It was like my second time riding one.

In actuality, you can't go wrong with any of the trails. They keep them very well-groomed and safe. It really just depends on what type of terrain you want to ride...

Well, I think everyone should start thinking about dates, but we don't really have to put anything together just yet. I think February would be a good time to begin really planning. Like I said, April 1-9 is good for me...that's spring break here. I can go just about any weekend, though. Everyone put aside the best dates for them and sometime in February, we'll start putting something together. Sound good?

Yeah, the high/middle/elem schools here have spring break the first week. Basically, the whole school year calendar is pushed forward compared to back home. We start about two weeks earlier (Aug 15) and are out earlier, too (May 25). I would assume that's why spring break is pushed up by about two weeks.

Heck, they don't even check anything. Both times I've gone, we've just walked in, got our stickers, and rode. Never saw any rangers out on the trails, either.
