I have an '04. the engine is stock. I have a yoshimura slip on, full body skid plates, nerfs. etc. Just body stuff. and some '05 front shocks. I'll also have hipers by the time the race is here. I'm just hoping to finish with me and my quad in one piece. So any advice would be nice. thanks.

This is just me, but I would suggest you take the cash you plan to drop on the Hi-Pers, what, about a grand? Take it and invest in at least a rear shock rebuild and some better fronts. I raced all year on stock wheels, and stock front tires with I razr rears and never had a flat tire and my wheels are just fine. Hipers would be one of the last things I would buy.

I second this one.

Iam guessing you are refering to mx, if so then as stated above hipers are the last thing you need. Ditch the full underbody protection (weights to much, keep swingarm) Send your front and rear shocks to I believe it is pro sport atv and have both sets revalved and new springs from TCS. I think I seen the front for $650 and the rear for $350. Have to ask Lolli about this one.

Change your front sprocket to a 13 tooth, depending on rear tires and your personal preference. Ditch all unnecassary weight i.e. parking brake, brake light, reverse and anything you dont need.

I dont know what tires you are running, but if they are stock at least get rid of the front tires get a set of 20" fronts, this will help with cornering. The front stock tires have to much sidewall flex and you cant predict how the bike is going to act.

Your suspension should be the first thing to do, it will lower you and make the landings and mistakes a lot better for you and your bike.

Good luck.

I'm not getting into mx. I'm looking into xc/gncc. So I think I'm going to need my skid plates. And my shocks are going to be sent to Laz at GTT after the first of the year for a rebuild. And if you could see what I put my wheels thru you would probably switch to Hipers as well. LOL. Thanks for the info guys. keep it coming.

Alright then, sorry about that. Not my area of expertise.

Forgot to tell you good luck

Well, the only other thing I can think of then would be some good hand guards, a different front bumper would be nice, and put some kind of lock on your seat latch cuz its bound to come off at some point and really pizz you off! Other than that, keep her pinned and the rubber side down and have fun! You WILL become addicted! Good luck!

i would find a place to carry some tire slime if it is a long race. The day of the race drink lots of fluids water works just fine. Also just take it easy out there on your first couple times learn the track and such and after a couple weeks you will know how hard you can push the limit,

good luck

Get in shape if not already. Your legs and arms are going to take a beating so get them up to par. I raced cross-country and loved it. It is hard to maintain speed lap after lap.

my bro used to race gncc so the only things i can really tell you to help is to make sure you get in good shape... and when you wake up that mornin you need to drink pedialite (or whatever the drink is for lil kids) so you won't dehydrate... (it sounds dumb... but it works) make sure you stretch some before too... that always helps...be sure you know where your pit crew is goin to be also... and make sure they have extra gloves goggles gas etc... good luck and seriously drink the pedialight
fox_racer188
forgot to tell you... dont forget your camel pack and fill it with cool water.... it helps a lot too... make sure you have it stuck in your helmet so you dont have to mess with in when tryin to get a drink of water and lose time.... the best way that i have found to wear it is under your chest protector if you even wear one... also, make sure that you take a wet wash cloth in a zip lock bag with you for when you get done racin so you can wash your face and get all the mud and stuff of cuz that will make you feel a lot better when you do... and try not to eat to heavy of a breakfast before the race cuz if you get that hot it is more than likely goin to make you really sick... Also, make sure you pace yourself.. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Hiper wheels!! I see many quads in xc races with fugged up wheels. When ya get a flat, the beadlock will keep the tire on too. Hipers are worth theyre weight in gold. I will be buying a set at the end of the month!!!! clap.gif I ride rocky conditions year round, and go through about 2 skid plates around here just riding XC courses. Keep everyday parts in stock too.

Yeah, I'm going to get a set of hipers before the race. They're next on the list and I just got a new swingarm skid plate in the mail yesterday so that should cover me until then I think. I give my skid plates a pretty good beating too. Does anybody know the best way to secure your camelback tube inside the helmet so that it's easy to get while you're riding? I've had several people suggest this but no one has actually said how they do it.

hey good luck I started racing last year xc at 41 years old.took 3rd in my class and 21 overall. my son started last year also took a first in his class C and 11 overall.
put a hole trough your helmet where your mouth air comes through for your drink hose. the stock wheels will not hold up if you ride hard and fast. my son bent the crap out of three in one race. I run the baja t9 put a good hurting on them after one season.so get them hipers if you can.
next i would up grade your tie rods the stock bend real easy when you hit trees trust me I know.at least bring a spare. you can use raptor ones they seem to be a little stronger either ones are about 10 bucks. or get some made out of stainless thats whats my son did.
some sort of steering dampner is a good ideal also really helped me. anti vibe stem and bars would be good also i cantaford them yet. nrefs are great also i won't ride without them.
tires I would only run holeshot HD's or razor2's trust me on this. my son and i run the 20in HD's but know alot of guys running 22in razor2's both work outstanding.
put on all the gear you have and then some the more the better.
you'll want to pace yourself dont try to race people.we run 2 hours its the longest 2 in your life.nothing like 2hours of trail riding.just try to be there at the end.and you'll do ok. most of all have fun a lot of good people at the races.
check out AWRCS.COM our first race is april 1 in wheeling wv. mhihi.gif

forgot most tracks want you run a deadman switch.[ tether]

Yeah I know. I just haven't gotten one yet but I will soon.

The best way to secure your camel pack in your helmet is to probably take a zip tie and put it in the metal link of your chin strap. or you could even to do it to the face of your helmet... i have seen in done several different ways... but those two are the ones i have seen the most...
