I've been to the last three Snake Hunt weekends and it's a love/hate relationship for me. I like the cool toys to look at but I can't stand all the drunks and the damn traffic. 50% of the people out there during Snake Hunt weekend don't even have a quad or bike to ride. They are just there to drink beer and take up space. I'm kinda sick of it really. I'm glad the state is going to step in and make some serious changes to the park and clean it up.
I won't be going back this year for Snake Hunt. The hassle is just not worth it anymore. The first couple years were ok, but I don't get that excited over it anymore. I'd rather have less people, less traffic, less drunks, and more parking and more space etc....

Wow......I stop at that same gas station everytime I go to the dunes! I know exactly where that tow service is.......I alway stare at the big red Ford wrecker they have sittin' out front. That's one bad ass truck!!!!
I didn't know they were building a bunch of tracks. Are there any trails to ride as well?? That might be a cool place to ride if they had campgrounds set up as well. It's only about a two and a half hour trip for me, and I even have a good friend that lives in Ark City. He's a teacher.
Get lots of pics of this place, I'm interested in it. Thanks!
P.S. I know there's lots of fuel at that place but do they have any race fuel on hand by any chance? That would really make it convienent.

ANYWAY....Please share a little more info on that ATV area off of the interstate. I'm not sure where that is. Is it just tracks? Gonna try and make it to snake hunt, only for ONE night though. Can't handle the headachers more than that.
SE Kansas has gotta have some nice riding areas, it would be great terrain.

I'm from the big city of Mullinville, which is about 35 miles east of Dodge. I go to LS about 10 times a year. I'll be down for Snake hunt this year again. I've done a bunch of new mods for this year, so bring on the other 450's
They have been talking a bunch of trash on planet sand on Z's, so we are to have show them how it is.......
Oh, and by the way if it wasn't for Oklahoma sucking so bad, Texas would fall off into the ocean.

Im close enough to kansas to say hey. I take a five minute drive and Im there. there are a group of six of us heading down the week before snake hunt. Im not a big partier so I hope we will be rideing more than drinking. anyone know how busy it is the week before snake hunt??
cgentz
Mar 22 2006, 08:34 PM
Probably not too busy. Can't say I've been there that weekend. Can't imagine it would be too bad. Any weekend besides snake hunt and sand fest isn't too bad, if you go down on Friday you might have a hard time getting campsite.
Go Thursday's to make sure you get a spot. OR GO ON SUNDAY, and camp beginning of week. Dunes are smoother, the nuts are gone, and you can go wide open. But, not as many toys to look at, and that is 1/2 the fun.

I've been riding at one place in O-town. Not sure if it's the same one. The place I've been to is near the river at a guys house. He has a small section of jumps, some open field riding w/ a small drag strip. Plus there's lot of trails on the other side of the levy. Is that the one you're talking about? I'm only 30 min. from there.

Yep, that must be the place. Has a bunch of old cars and some junk around the shop. They have a nice enclosed trailor for their racing quads too.
I'm currently still working on a complete rebuild so it'll be awhile before I can make the drive up there. But, after that, it's just a short drive so we'll have to meet up there and ride.

We only live 15 mintues away from each man. Do you only ride at Osawatomie? I've been there several times. The strip is short, but fun. The trails are ok. It's worth going to every once in awhile. Haven't been there in quite awhile though. People still go regularly? I've gone to parker to ride too. It used to be fun, but was all whooped out last fall. Not sure if it's better or not. We should hook up sometime.

BTW - The pics of my quad in the link in my Sig are a little outdated. That's how my quad looked after last years rebuild. This year is a whole other story. You won't even recognize it when I'm done. There's pics to come in the future when it's finished.

up by Junction City there are two big public parks, on Milford Lake and on Tuttle Creek. They're pretty good, not as busy as they used to be it seems like.
I played Evil Kneivel? last weekend. Racing my bro in top of third and got bucked off my horse, Screwed myself up pretty bad. ER visit with bunch of X-rays and CT scans and stuff. Still hurting a week later. KFX still rips though. Just has little white marks where plastic got all bent up. It is not a good thing when you have pee in your blood. Remember that.

School creek is at Milford Lake. Tuttle Creek has a decent ORV area on the NW side of lake....it is more of a jeepers creepers place but it is a good quad place. Wouldn't ride on new tires in either location, lots of sharp rocks.

Thought I would go ahead and post here too as I'm an Okie at heart and lived 10 miles from Ark City all of my life.
I'm originally from Newkirk, OK. I've was stationed up at Fort Riley for a couple years back in 1999-2001 and have ridden the crap out of Milford Lake up at Tuttle Creek. Used to ride out there with a guy that had a 250R and a 400ex.
Back when I was still in school, I worked construction all over that state, to include Wichita, Salina, Hutchinson, Topeka, and the list could go on forever.
Good to see some old neighbors, even though you all make my state very windy!!!
