Full Version: Where To Ride Out West?
SuzukiCentral > :::Racing and Riding::: > Where to ride?
Duane
Looking at making a 2 week trip next year, with trucks, t/h's and quads. Our plan is to drive from San Diego heading north, make a stop in northern Cal, then to Oregon for a stop and the up to Washington and start heading East from there to Idaho for a stop and then maybe a little further then start rolling down towards Utah and Nevada for a few pit stops. The intention is to stop and ride quads everywhere and to look at the country hoping to find another place to move too in the future.

So, since I only know Socal and central Cal, I'm looking for exact locations so I can map out a route, so if ya'll can provide me with some locations, websites, town names etc...... it would be great.

Thanks,
Duane

In Oregon:

Dunes
Hauser 10 mi north of North Bend (Oregon dunes)
Winchester Bay - 10 mi north of Hauser
Florence - 20 mi north of Winchester Bay
Sand Lake - 60 mi north of Florence (small compared to the other areas)
Christmas Valley - eastern Oregon North of Crater Lake

Trails (dusty this time of year)
Brown's Camp in Tillamook
Lots on the east side but very dusty right now

Idaho- Rexburg= about 5 miles away from St. Anthony

Utah-Tooele: about an hour away from both Little Sahara Sand Dunes (home of the famed Sand Mountain) and Knolls- little section of smaller dunes some awsome salt flats and a couple of good hill climbing sections on some huge rock hills; also not quad related but home of Larry H. Miller Raceway if you're a car/motorcycle race fan.

Nephi: about a half hour away from Little sahara

Salt Lake County: about 2-2 and a half hours away from Little sahara, an hour and a half away from knolls, and about 4-5 hours away from St. Anthony

St george: not sure on distance or time but close to sand hollow- a lake with dunes and also somewhat close to coral pink sand dunes

You're gonna need 3-4 weeks to hit all these areas. mhihi.gif

Keep in Mind The Coos Bay to Florence is massive riding. Many people camp there for a week and don't ride all of it. If you hit Sand Lake near Tillamook , OR you should check out the Tillmook Forest Trails. There's 6 or 7 very good trailheads , and your Oregon Sticker is good to ride there. Also in Goldendale , Wa there a descent MX Park. I know some other spots in Oregon , but not too much about WA State ; Pm me if i can help further.

If you're going to be taking I-15 back to San Diego (don't know of any other practical way from utah/nevada lol) make sure to hit up Little Sahara in Utah, and Sand Hollow, also in Utah. I believe Little Sahara is around 45min from the freeway, and Sand Hollow is about 5 min.

I'm sure will spend a few days in Utah, buddy's got family there and thats one of the places I want to look at for possible future living.

Also, if you are looking for some trail riding you might want to check out the San Rafael Swell and Moab. The only drawback is they are each around 2-2.5 hours off I-15. People come from all over the US to ride the Swell though...it was good when it was in my back yard icon_cool.gif
