I have a 2007 Z400 (black) and my buddy has a 2006 white Z400. We went to a local ATV park this past weekend and they had a 330ft drag strip where we took turn taking down a new 500 predator. He would beat us when we didnt get a good launch, but if we could keep the front tires on the ground (which is nearly impossible) we would bust his butt. and we are both stock. I think he had a slip on pipe, and holeshots all the way around.

smokin preds is EASY!!!!!! not really much to brag about there. sorry guys don't mean to bust yer chops, didn't intend for it to sound that way. give the pred another 200 feet and he could have stood a chance, but not much of one!!!

Put a decent set of shoes (tires) on that Pred and a stock and lightly modded Z does'nt stand a chance!!!!!!

Not being a smart ass....stock for stock in a 330ft drag.....that Pred should walk off from a Z at about the 100ft mark....unless the rider is holing the bike back. I've seen it many times.....now if your on a modded Z, then that's a different ball game, but stock for stock...even piped Z's should'nt be winning a 330 ft race against a Pred....i do take into consideration that the way the power comes on, the Pred loses traction...i mean for that matter i can bust YFZ's, 450R's, and LTR's the 1st 40 feet....after that i'm a sitting duck! lol lol

mod for mod we have 2 preds over here that ride with me from time to time and even when we switch the z still comes out on top. those preds handle like turds!! they are spindly and unbalanced way to heck!!they do have the power and torque but, the design of the rest of the bike doesn't let it go to the ground!! they just wheely and fishtail and all kinds of goofy stuff!

Well, I guess some people think they know everything.....I doubt it. My Z is bone stock. The pred had a slip on, and holeshots "shoes" to some. It was fast as hell indeed, but when the Z hooked up, I would take him. Just sharing my story, didnt mean to open the floor to be told that I am full of it. But thanks just the same

lol welcome to z4c, it's what happens
im guilty of it also so i cant judge
anyway, nice choice in color for the new Z...wish they would have had that color a few years ago..
i want to drag a pred 520...that would be a challenge. if you ever get a chance to do it, do tell haha, love to hear the results on that one

Thanks for the welcome. That was a first. And I Love the color. The frame is anodized red...So it really looks great with the black plastics. Are you referring to the pred/outlaw 525 that polaris is making? or a Pred 500 with a big bore kit? I read that the new 525 will have the KTM engine in it. Should be pretty mean....But I still prefer my Z

I know that was directed for me and frankly i could care less, but i know more than you think. I was'nt saying you did'nt out run a Pred....more power to ya if you did!

My opinion is just that...an opinion. I guess i need video of how easy it is to beat a Predator in a straightline 300 ft drag on dirt stock for stock or mod for mod. I've been on atleast 5 different Preds and all of them were'nt wheely prone, they launched better than my KFX as for the nose not trying to reach for the sky, the power came on hard like a YFZ, atleast similar to it i guess. I'm not doubting what you all say (especially riverrat), i just know from my experience racing and riding them....that they're not a "cake walk" to outrun. I don't wanna turn this into a "bashing" either, a good debate is healthy for everyone! If it gets that way i'll delete the entire thread and be done with it.

Ok then......Never said it was a cake walk. No where near it. Those things are wicked fast....but so is the Z. Plus power to weight ratio plays a big roll IMO. And it could very well be that I am a better rider than the guy I raced. I have been riding something with a motor under me for the past 25 years, so I may have a little bit of experience on the guy I was against.
And yes, it was directed at you...no need for me to deny it. Just dont think there is any need to bash someone for sharing a story. Thats what the butt kickin thread is for, right?

I was'nt bashing you....sorry you took it that way...i could have said "your full of chit and lying"...that would be bashing you! lol Power to weight does play a big role, can't deny that in the least bit. Rider ability is probably the "real" deciding factor in most races....although when you have alot more motor it's not as prevalent as when they are close to equal. I don't know, i guess my experiences totally differ from everyone elses, i have out run them.....i've also been beaten by them more times than i have won against them to the 1st turn. Sorry again that you took it as i was bashing you.....the only one here i would intentionally bash is Riverrat!!! LMAO! Just kiddin' with ya Riverrat!!! lol

No Prob..........And the pred beat me quite a few times too, but it was usually when I couldnt keep the front end down. Also raced a honda 450R. He won, but he didnt make me look like an ass. pulled about 2 lenghts on me in the 330ft drag

I raced a pred once at the dunes. he was running razr 2's I think. I dont even remember. I had paddle tires. needless to say, I didnt see him after we left the line. and I wasnt looking back to see how far back there he was, since there was about 6 quads total in the race.
also raced a stock 450r with a 12t front sprocket. I only won by about 2 quad lengths. I'm guessing he would have TERRIBLE topend with a 12t sprocket. all this was with the stock carb.

i have had a little experience with the predators, and have raced quite a few. Usually the piped ones are about a quad in front of a piped z. My neighbor has a HotSeat Pred 600 and that thing is wicked fast. The first time i rode it he had it geared down slightly for hillclimbing, and with me sittin on the tank, as long as i didnt let off, the front end would never come down until well into 5th (that was when racing some other quads on a small paved road). So i can never complain about Predators, except when its in the shop

Terrain has alot to do with drag results. I say the only really fair drag is on pavement! When I was stock I beat a piped YFZ450 on the gravel, which obviously was traction. After modded to nearly what I have now, I got beat by a 426cc (otherwise stock) 400ex in the sand dunes, also because of traction. Now on pavement I can take 700Raptors Preds stock450s and can run with piped 450s. All Im really trying to say is traction is always an issue unless you run on pavement
