I'm about to race a kfx400 in a local xc series... I have raced a YFZ the past couple of years but sold it thinking I was getting out of racing. Well here I am preparing to race again with my wifes KFX400 and just wondered what guys with Z400s and KFXs generally have done to prepare their quads for XC racing. I'm looking for things a little beyond shocks, tires and skidplates as thats what every quad needs. I'm looking for little things that are peculiar to the z400 and kfx.

Mine is setup for XC but not completely. Performance wise it just has an HMF slip on, 13t sprocket, no lid, K&N, jetted carb. I have about $10,000 into it with my LSR+1 swinger, Elka LT back shock with Linkage, Elka ST front shocks, Douglas beadlock front wheels, RAZR2's all around, and much more...There's more mods in the sig and if you want I can post some pics of mine just to give you an idea.

If you count the price of your quad you maybe have $10K into it, but theres no way those mods would add up to $10K.

As for the original question, suspension is key to XC racing, but you already know that. Also I would recommend a good set of handguards, a gripper seat cover, and anything else to make your ride more comfortable. Basic performance mods should include a high flow filters and a FULL system. Dont bother with a slip-on, you'll be much happier with a full system. Tires would also be a good investment. Most people swear by razr2's. I personally prefer Kenda Klaw's myself, they clean out better and wont get caked with mud on your first lap. Good luck!

I have many more mods than listed, yes I have 10k worth of mods whether they are on the bike or sitting in my garage.
