OK I've been looking to upgrade to a better quad. Right now I have a Yamaha Wolverine. I want to start racing a few local harescrambles. But I have a few questions. I weigh 220lbs. and I was wondering if a z400 has enough power for me to be competative in the beginner classes. Or should I just go straight to a 450? Also with the money I save by buying a Z, could I upgrade the quad enough to take on a few 450's in an XC type enviroment?

Thanks!!!
Paul
z400's are GREAT hare scramblers. I would definatly reccomend one. A z400 with RAZR2's, a full exhaust, filter, and jet kit will be all you'd need to race competively and you could finish awesome on it too. But most bigger races will require a tether switch and a set of good nerf bars.

I race in WI here and I have seen a lot of 220+ racers on Z's... My soon to be EX is about 6'2" and he did just fine on the Z400 taking 4th over all for the season... I don't know about the rules where you are at but anywhere I have ever raced it is REQUIRED you have a teather... I have raced in 4 states... And I personaly like the Rossie full system pipe with the dino jet kit... AC nerfs are pretty good and I'm not just saying that because I am sponsored through them... I really wouldn't worrie though about the engine if you are a beginner... start out with your suspention the z WILL not let you down in the POWER trust me.... With the motor mods I have done to her I have beat a trx450r on the ice this year and passed Banshee that was hauling butt last year... But you will NEED new shocks.... Just my opinion take it for what it's worth...Later

Yeah like the dude above me said, you will want shocks. Need? Probably not but you definatly will want a set of shocks and a steering stabilizer. Elka's are preferred by XC'ers because of how soft they set them up.

That's ok... I have a lot of people thinking I'm a dude at the local track until I take off the helmet.... When you play in a mans world you are bound to be taken as one... No offence taken SMILES!!!! I am glad my advice helped you...

Pics would be nice....

Oh back on topic....tell you what with all the quads out there for sale I would be looking to go a used 450 for almost the same as a 400...Just above this thread is a YFZ for $4600!!!!

I would definetly say a Z will be great...I love mine and with the 434 it is great but....you gotta look into the 450's.... absolutely.

if you are going to get a 450 id wait to look at the kawi.. seems to be geared towards harescrambles more. I am about 6'0 and 220 and i mx the z, i have ridden most 450s and i am more comfortable on the z.... although i have never ridden a 450 set up for someone of my size

I feel that the z400 is THE BEST quad to ride in the woods...In stock form anyways. One of my friends has a yfz and the other has a 450r and my friend has a stock z. I rode them all through my trails, and the z just feels way better. Of course, at a pro level, the quads are all the same basically since they are all almost fully aftermarket.

Well I've found a few good deals on some Z's. But I have a question for future reference. How would a Z with the Athena 434 kit do against a 450. I'm thinking of modding down the road and I wanted to know before I bought a quad.

Thanks
