I've been ready to hit up LS for weeks! I just can't get any of my lazy arse friends to help plan a trip. I still need to find new riding buds who are a lil' more motivated I guess.

I'm chomping to dune out myself. Machines in total pieces getting ready. Campsites are booked.

Really....hmmmm...interested. Camping or motel? Got room to haul me and the quad? I bet you don't live all that far from me. I'm only an hr. south of K.C. I'll PM you....

You may have to add me to your list. If need be, I can drive up your way and meet up when the time comes. You guys hauling the quads on a trailor or enclosed? Not that it really matters...just curious. Who are the others and what do they ride?

it will be an open trailer for me not enough room for
my z in my buddies 24' enclosed trailer. the other
guys are mainly banshee dragers they got banshees,
drag frame banshees, a quadzilla, and a couple yfz's
they arent on this forum just planetsand.

Sounds like there are 2 trailors going? Is that right? An enclosed w/ one part of the group and you and your open trailor? How much room is on your trailor and how many are riding w/ you directly? Just interested in some details.

BTW - How old are you fella's? Not that it matters...just curious again. Any beer drinkers in the group? I don't get drunk and ride or anything but I like to have a cold one when I'm done riding for the night.

i was at the dunes for the second time this season..and i snapped my frame in 4 spots.....sucks but i hope you guys have fun

It's not gonna be my first trip....and probably not my 15th. I don't ever have frame problems....especially with my custom 25 piece gusset kit installed.

they have got some really nice bikes that are fast as s@#t in the flats!!
yea two trailers so far, it looks like im driving by my self with the 18' open trailer
all to my little z they have got 3 or 4 bikes each and it takes all of that 24'er
to hold em! im 26 they are 26 and 29.
mmmmm beer!! im not much of a morning drinker but when afternoon
comes around i start to get thirsty. we stay sober until somebodys bike
breaks and then we drink till its fixed. lol!
im leaving thursday night after work or friday morning. and we load up and go
home on sunday.

i read about that earler that sucks man

Hmm....Thursday night would be do-able. Heck, anytime is do-able for me since I have the whole week off. If you have room in the truck I might, just might be able to round up another guy to help split some costs. If you have a big enough truck we are can always pull my small trailor and put one quad in the back of the pickup. There's just no way my lil' truck and trailor can do much. I have a Sonoma 4X4 and a 5x8 trailor. Not much, but it works well around home. I'll check in after awhile. I'm off to get my workout in....an hour on the quad through the trails!

ive got a fullsize gmc but its reg cab, 3 can fit ( as long as they dont smell )
and ive got plenty of room on the trailer for three bikes and room in the bed
for stuff. hell yea now im really ready to go talkin about it isnt helping!!!!!!lol

Just got back from a ride. That's 5 days this week for me! Trying to get my arse back into condition so I don't wear out in 5 min. at the dunes!

I'm thinking this trip is very do-able for me. None of my other buddies are going to plan any rides so I might as well make other plans of my own. I don't care if it's just you and me in the truck...esp. if it's only a standard cab. That leaves more room for us. Do you sleep in a tent or out under the stars? Also...anyone in the group bringing firewood? I can provide some if needed.

One more thing. Do you usually get up and leave Sun morning or do you ride during the day and then come home? I don't mind a morning ride but I'm not real big on leaving Waynoka in the late afternoon and getting home late Sun. night.

ive been having dreams bout jumpin and draggin out there.i can already smell them drag banshees and can see the big puffs of blueish lookin smoke.ahhhh.ive started looking for all my dune clothes.i found my shoes and dumped the sand out and thought to myself,only about a infinity more trips to the dunes and i will have enough sand to fill up the backyard.lol

You will definitely have to get it fixed before you gusset and I wouldn't trust that job to just anyone. I would seek the advice of the best welder in your area and stress the importance of maintaining the original dimensions, strength, and keeping it square.

Now back to the original topic.. dunes

im in a tent, they sleep in the trailer. we bring some wood but we dont burn much because
of the wind. on sunday we wake up load up eat bfast and head home so we can be back
before dark.

less than 2 weeks sand

I blew the center core out of my LRD exhaust today! CRAP! I'll be calling LRD tomarrow hoping I can get replacement parts sent in time. Otherwise I'll be ordering a new full exhaust before the trip! Not exactly good news for me, but I'll have the problem solved one way or another before next week. I'll borrow a pipe from someone if I have to just so I can go w/ you to the dunes next week.

Did the same thing with my LRD. I formed and welded a new piece of metal on what was left of the original core and it has been fine since.

would have worked. 10 days left! im getting mine tuned
up today after work and putting in my new brass steering stem
bushing, I am almost ready to load it up and go!!!!!!!!

im almost ready to start polishing stuff up.i still got a little more riding around here to do then i will start

So far, I'm still in. Just a minor set back w/ the blown out exhaust though. I'll get it fixed or order a whole new exhaust before I let something like a bolt on parts ruin a dune trip. It's a cheap easy fix...just need to see if the part (center core) is even still available from LRD since I have the old style canister. I'm at work (teaching) so I can't call. Anyone feel like calling LRD and asking if the center core for the '03 canister is available...and the packing? I may not have a chance to call today.

but the newer 2" core can work with core and end cap and
little moding to the LRD can so the 2" will match up

I wonder which part of the canister has to be modded? Probably the end where it meets the mid pipe I'm assuming. Hmmm...$21.95 for the packing? Ouch! RMATV has it for like 6 or 7 bucks I think. I have to make an order though them anyways. I really don't like the idea of using the new style endcap. They are longer and stick out there farther than the old style but I'll do what I gotta do I guess.

Maybe it's time for a new exhaust and try something else? Hmmmm....

Called LRD....and all I have to say is excellent service over the phone!

I talked them into reducing both ends of the 2" core to fit my existing ends of my old style pipe. That way I don't have to do any modifications to my existing parts. The nice part is the new style cores are stainless instead of the low quality steel that was previously used. He said they had complaints in the past w/ the steel cores and that's why they switched to the stainless cores. He said he was surprised mine lasted this long (4 years). Also, I asked why their EX packing was so high priced and it's because it's a ceramic insulation that's not only fire proof but comes pre-molded for ease of installation. The cheap packing you buy is usually not ceramic material and doesn't come pre-molded. Sold me....

No worries now Robert (knock on wood). I knew it would be a cheap, easy fix! Now, as long as nothing else goes wrong between now and next Thurs, I am LS bound w/ ya!

You shouldn't have to rejet. The elevation at Waynoka is very similar to eastern KS/western MO....close to 1000 ft. above sea level. Depending on temps, I always run either a 165 main or 170 main and 50 pilot. I run the 165 main when it's 90 degrees or somewhere in that ball park. Anything less than 85 degrees I use the 170 main. I've got a few years of experience under my belt w/ the FCR carb so if any tuning needs to be done, I'm sure we can dial it in.

If one of the guys dropped out, does that leave us room for our machines in the enclosed? Or do we need to still take separate trailors? What I'm getting at is, why the Yukon? Yukon + enclosed?

i will be there with my buddy i got a white 05 Z and he has a blue lakota. We are coming from topeka so if anyone needs a ride or needs to be followed im down. just two of us in a suburban look for a big dude on a Z400 it will prolly be me lol.

and I dont have any thing that would pull it, but i think we can fit
all the bikes on this 18' open trailer and pull it with the yukon so
we can all ride together instead of two or three trucks.
