Hey all I was just wondering.. What gear can you guys wheelie in? Like how a raptor can do a wheelie in 4th and 5th but can a z\kfx\dvx wheelie in like 4th gear with the right mods? I was just wondering just came to my mind.. Cause I can only do a wheelie in 1st,2nd and 3rd but have to put my feet up on the grab bar..

ive always been able to do it in 1st-3rd. and w/ a 440 kit and hotcams i could get 4th w/ a little jerk.

i could get mine up in 4th before i got my front shocks but after i got the shocks with the sag highest is 3rd.. it took all my streingth in 4th and it would slowly come up but it would hit the balance point...its much easier to lift it in 3rd and shift to 4th and 5th

what if you are ripping around a trail in 5th and need to bring the front wheels up , you gonna down shift to 1st ..... no way it is good to learn to bring the wheels up in 4th

1st thru 3rd is pretty much no problem other than a tap of the throttle, 4th gear is my favorite for wheelies, I love pullin half to 1 mile wheelies at 50 in 4th.. I've tried shifting from 4th to 5th but it just dosn't have the pull to hold it in 5th unless your about straight up n down but when ur goin 50+ it gets a little scary past the 50 degree point.. I'll try to get a video of me doin a 4th gear down the road.. I like to show off for my friends camera

on real solid flat ground, I can pull a wheelie in 5th, but thats pullin up on the bars real hard, and my feet on the pegs, and my fat butt as far back as it will go. 2nd and 3rd are the money gears for controllable wheelies. its fun to walk a 1st gear wheelie for a long time, not a whole lot of people can do that.

Very TRUE! , my frind used to wheelie with his Blaster , he always says"it's not a matter of how fast , it's a matter of how slow u can go" becoz , u know , it's very very very very hard to keep the bike balanced in the 1st gear as the bike will be so agrressive , i remeber he could wheelie while i can just walk beside the bike " as slow as walking person" , but it's easier to wheelie at 4th , because if u give it some thrrotel , it will just pull up slower than the 1st or 2nd gear....I wonder if anyone understood my thory....

Well I know for sure I can pull the front end up on my z250 in fifth gear but I never tried to pull it up in fifth on the 400. I have ridden it from third into fifth on the z though.
Paul
Apr 13 2007, 06:32 PM
Well tried it today...Highest gear I could pull it up in was fourth...And only did it twice. I guess the swinger and suspension really made all the difference. But from second (or first, or even third) I could pull it up and ride it through every gear, provided I stay straight.

i wheelie in every gear, now i have a 42th on the back so it picks up a lil easier but ill put it in 4th pull up a lil bit, and once its up kick it into 5th and ride away. so far the longest is over a mile and a half standing one foot on the seat in 5th. so yea its deff. do-able.

I've got a few mods in mine and I was cruzing on pavement beside my parents doing around that 80 km/h mark and I can lift it very nicely in 4th and at around 90 km/h in fifth it takes alot of momentum but I have lifted the front a few time but not everytime.

I watch some guys that I go riding with do high speed wheelies all the time. I haven't ever rode that far on a wheelie, I usually pop the wheelie then fall right back down no matter how high I am my dad tells me I just need to find the right balance point. When I was riding in the dunes this weekend I had too much wheel spin in first to do a wheelie, So I would go into second pull in the clutch while tapping the rear brake then I would dump the clutch

i been practicin lately. i just got off a bad knee injury from work so i havn't been able to ride much untill the past 2 weeks. but now i can do the stop and go or w/e 1st gear wheelie. or for the more adrenaline rush be goin in 3rd pop the clutch ride 3rd 4th 5th and hit revvy. i can only do it about 1/4 or 1/2 mile because i hit the revvy. o and thats completely sitting down. no foot back on grab bar unless doin the slows....but overall its a good adrenaline rush. i haven't wrecked yet ...knock on wood. and when i fiirst started doing them i didn't have a helmet

but now i got one and wear it. because a 70mph wheelie crash isn't going to feel good specailly w/o a helmet. but yea its kinda cool because when my front drops the tires arent spinning and they hit the ground and it leaves 2 black marks where my tires hit. haha. its a good way to show proof to unbeliveing friends..but even then some of mine dont believe i can do it so i just get out there and do it again.

I can wheelie all the way through 5th if i had a 6,7,8, bla bla bla gear i could do it forever. Wheelies are so easy!i love slow wheelies too!! i like doing no handed slow wheelies with the foot in the grab bar.

You should be able to wheelie in any gear once you learn the balance point and brake control I can start in 1st go through 5th pull in the clutch do a coaster back to 1st and right back into a sit down or stand up no hander.

you have to start out in 1st then ride it out to 5th.... its what i do..... and i ride with my tire preassure in the back arround 2 pounds so if i start wandering i can lean and recover and stay in a straight line...... although i have an 05 450r with a full yoshi pipe stage 2 cams and a K&N 22" tires 13tooth front and 36 back..... i can ride forever down the pavement in fifth on my back tires untill i hit the rev limiter

yeah, I can get up in first for like 20 feet, and the same in second, I think that is only because I have rode my z 3 times since I bought it in December 06. So I might need to practice more.

I was in winchester bay about a month ago and was just kinda riding along and right when i past banshee hill I
decided to pop the clutch while i was in fourth for no reason....not even trying to do a wheelie or anything and all of a sudden im like oh shiite this things coming way too far back on me, I let off the gas a little and found the balance point which was crazy cuz that was my 1st 4th gear wheelie( i rode it 4 about 400 feet) and it suprised the hell out of me, cuz i didnt know i could the highest i got before was a 3rd. I was looking hella sick especially with my friend who has the yfz riding next to me and he was pissed cuz he couldnt do one at all.
note- i have an lrd pro 4full exhaust and a 440 kit and the carb is jetted. I own that yfz.
another story..... last week we dragged up this hill 7 times i won 6 out of the 7. the reason i lost one was beacuse my tires werent getting any traction turning( theres a tiny turn) cuz it kept lifting em off to where there was no pressure on them.

doing highspeed wheelies out on the frozen lakes are tricky if you go over too far and hit the foot brake it dont drop back down it just slips the tires and starts turning around in a circle and then whoops you are tumbling down the ice !!!! happend last winter on my girlfriends 250 ex it wasn't that fast but i was in 5th clipping it pretty good and when i flipped man she wasnt too happy!!! oops. cant wait to do it again!!

i use first and second gears to do slow wheelies, when i shift into third is when i use it for high speed wheelies and shift into fourth, i can pop it up in fourth and with alot of throttle and clutch and all 260 lbs shifted to the back as far i can go i can pop it up in fith but never ride it out.
im mostly into slow wheelies, i feel i have more control of everything at lower speeds, than going 50+ mph and something happen, plus its cool to ride wheelies in a small back/side yard while the wife and kids and all the other families are on the deck, well...not small, but not a big yard either only 3-3/4 acres

If ur doin a sitdown you can switch gears while your goin, it takes some practice but then you can go to any gear you want.I usually start in first or second O.. and a lot depends if your using the clutch to do it ...if ur not it makes a lot harder.

I was just riding mine today on the pavement for a bit and tried doing wheelies in all the gears especially practicing the slow moving wheelies in first gear. But anyways, I can only do them in up to third and that's sitting down. I tried 4th and it came up but not very easily plus my quad doesn't like to go straight when I'm doing a wheelie (and not to mention I don't have a whole lot of room to be running at a good speed in 4th to goose it)...it pulls to the left a bit. I've checked the tire pressure but I'm not sure what's wrong with it...
zookie400
Mar 9 2008, 07:55 PM
you can steer it by leaning. you might be leaning already a little bit causing it to steer to the left.
hackattack
Mar 10 2008, 07:54 PM
Yeah, and you know...that's a really good possibility. That finally clicked in my head yesterday after I was almost done...but I have to be careful or the neighbors will call the cops on me so I can only ride for a very short time and I was nearing the end of that very short time! But anyways, I will try that next time because I think I do look off the lift side when I'm in a sit down wheelie.
What else could be my problem if it's not a leaning problem? I don't mean to steal the thread...if you have answers you can PM me.
Thanks!

the crown in the road, or a slight hill that you are riding on ? the faster you go, the more it will wander. my friend took a tumble in a 5th gear wheelie because the road pitched a little and steered him into the guard rail....he was bloody.
