we have a lot of fun at the sand drags a SL and we race as far as we can . the question i have is
just how far would a regulation type drag race for quads be?
and for that matter just how far is it from the start to the finish at SL, seam like we go a long ways.

Most tracks around the country are 300'. There are some tracks in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana that do 200'. I would say the track we run on the dunes (Silver Lake)is 500' or so. There is a big ATV only race at West Mich Sand Dragway on June 21 22 23 I think those are the dates. It is a Thursday thru Saturday. Thursday will be test and tune Friday will be heads up and Saturday will be bracket racing. You should come up and see what it's all about. Some of the fastest bikes in the country will be there!!!!!!!!!!

the silver lake strip seems pretty far. I'm usually in 4th, or if I'm not leading by too much I click up to 5th

300 feet ! OMG do you know what is means ? i was really kicking some but at silver lake if we cut the tape at 300 feet.

This saturday, I plan on using my measuring wheel and finding out exactly how far it is. In 300 ft, those 421 cheetah shees' wouldn't have beat me.

I'm like a kid in a candy store now. I just GOTTA know how far it is.

Dude you are crazy....... My old 421 cub motor ran 4.0's 4.1s all day long in 300'. You could'nt beat my buddy on his YFZ450. The fastest he has ran with his bike is 5.2's at a track in Ky. What makes you think you can beat a 421 cub Banshee. Any time you wanna run my little 400 stock stroke cheetah on a track let me know. I will teach you humility!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it shouldn't be good, nor even close to good.

There are only 2 4-strokes that I know of who run at 4.0 or under in 300ft...and it ain't your buddies.

I usually don't get out of 4th @ Silver Lake but A Little Sahara I was tapped out in 5th at the end of most of the drags when we started on the hill side.

Hey, 2 things that you don't know have changed.

1. Were you there last saturday May 19th??? Didn't see ya, so how would you know about the 5 421's that were there killing everything on the strip?? I was there with a big group of people that can confirm my results for the day. No, on the full length of the strip, I couldn't come close to touching them, they had wayyyy to much top end. But, I took them out of the hole everytime, and had them through 4th gear (at least 300 ft) before they overtook me. Now, for all intent and purpose, they didn't have extended swingers(which would help tremendously I feel) And when I asked them what they had in them, 421 is all they told me.

2. Your buddy's YFZ was fast for sure, but he only had me by 1 length or so everytime. This was on my 20x10x8 6 paddle extremes. I spun those tires something terrible, and could get no hookup at all with them. It was almost like I was spotting everyone a length and a half right off the line. Now, I have 21x12x8 6 paddle comp brats, and let me tell you the hook up is wayyy different. I have the launch down perfect now. It would be a totally different race this time around. I think I would take his YFZ for sure. I was the fastest 4 stroke there on the 19th, and there are a few fast YFZ's there in the Sand Duners Group.

So, am I going to beat your big shee'???? I highly doubt it. I Highly double doubt it. I was just making a statement about what I WOULD'VE beat in 300 ft last week. Sounds like your's is just ungodly. They had wheelie issues off the line, which I took advantage of by just flat out going straight.

I don't need to be taught humility, I am not bragging about anything other than what happened last week. One of my friends has a 370 shee, with a 6 in swinger, and all I know is his has plenty of go juice in it. I have never ran his.

Please don't get all Pissed off just because I said I could beat 421 shee's. I am sure that there is a huge difference between your's and theirs.

If there is anything close to resembling the quad in that pic, I won't even line up with it. I know I will have no chance.

With those 20x10x8 extremes, i was in 5th, and it felt like i needed 6th. With my brats, i wasn't always getting into 5th. That shows the difference right there. Plus I need to tweak with my own gearing a little bit. I know I can still get more out of it.

Did I mention I have been drinking since I woke up this morning. I LOVE VACATION!!!!!!!!Mine is certainly not all that......But it is really fast. Just wish sometimes I had a suspended bike to run in the dunes. We will be there this weekend. I will be hanging out with all the banshee guys most of the time. There will be some big time players out there Sat and Sun. I know of a turbo Busa Raptor that will be out. Should be good!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy frick. A turbo busa raptor???? This is the kind of power, and the reason I want to go so bad this weekend. I plan on taking the camera, and a video camera.

All the racing I will be doing, i will make sure it's in my class. I will not be lining up with stuff like that.

There will also be 2 100+ hp yfz 450 turbo bikes out there. And a gsxr1000 turbo bike. There will be some awesome rides.

I am so ready to pick my jaw up off the sand. I will probably be watching and shooting pics as much as I will be riding.

Now, Let's just hope the weather cooperates. It's calling for the dreaded " R " word 40% chance.

I think the fact that the drag strip is over 300ft is irrelevant. You set your gearing up for the track you're racing on, If you were racing on a 300ft drag, then you would be geared lower than the SL strip. (around 500ft)

So all this "I woulda won if the strip was shorter" is really pointless.

On a side note, I wish you all woulda been there on the 20th, There wasn't much out there beating me unless I got a bad start and I would have loved some competition! Oh well, maybe next time!

Ya I guess it does...........but it's slow. And it always will be slow. I would like to build another stupid fast dune bike. I have a buddy with Zilla chassis I could get cheap......and there is a Mach Z 800 engine in the barn........hmmmmmmmm. Don't get me wrong I would have nothing other than my Z for a general duning and a play bike, I love the little bike, but??????????

A random guy out on the dunes let me rip his zilla a few times, he said it was bone stock and probably need a rebuild.. But damn that thing ripped! It sure could use some better suspension though, thing was tough to hang on to on the whooped out drag strip!

we did a check on the distance, from the north side of water hole in the flat area to the first stump at the north end of the flat area is 800'

most of the play was done in a space of 700'

all should be great full , we talked to one ranger about the drag strip , as we called it , he said there is no
drag strip , a drag strip would not be legal he then smiled, so there letting us do some thing they don't have to . lets just call it play .

not to many lt Z's out there Saturday , i wanted to play but there was nothing much in my class .
there were some big hitters out there , that bosa was fun to watch,way over powered

Just got back.....Had an awesome time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did'nt ride much mostly just hanging out with all the banshee guys. Rode a couple drag bikes. The busa was fast but he was getting beat by a couple of big motored banshee guys. There was a Z out on Sunday that was stock with a boondockers setup on it. He was fast!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was it a yellow Z? I think I seen him out there last year, good rider too.

Yeah thats the bike that was there on Sunday. Same deal he did'nt stay at the strip for long. He said it was slowing down on the last couple of passes. He beat me every time by 3-4 quads. He said he was spraying a 20 shot.

I spent most of the day being the "Official Flag Starter" on saturday. Man, There was some seriously high powered things out there.

I must have looked stupid, with my quad parked at the end of the strip, and me walking with my little wheel up and down the "flat area". But, EVERYONE wanted to know how far it was. I knew it was alot farther than 500 ft.
