My wifes 04 250 just started slipping. 1st pulls ok but when shifting to 2nd and up, it takes alot to get it to go into gear then slips like hell. There is less than 50 hrs on this thing.

Does it need clutches?, if so, how difficult is it? Oh, and costly??

most likely you will need a new clutch or even just new plates or springs. It involves taking the case on the side off the engine off, for a complete clutch kit for your quad im guessing it around 60-75 bucks. check ebayfor clutch kits and get a service manual. good luck pm me if u have any other question maybe i could help u out a bit.

well it was as easy as my son's KX or any 100's of bikes I did back 20+ years ago' FYI if anyone else has to do it.

The front set (centrifigal clutches are held on by a reverse threaded nut. (righty loosey-lefty tighty)

The most important thing to know is that the inner-most clutch plate is different than the other 6 plates. It's called the drive plate and is thicker than all the others. It MUST go on the inside.

I got a set of DTP clutches ($136) but a world of difference with the heavier springs. They're race ready so no oil soaking is needed prior to installation. I will be getting DTP's for my Z400 soon too.
