I never saw where you specified...was this a long drag race? On pavement? Dirt? MX track? etc....

When the last one got move they moved it to the loft section there is also a section called "Butt Kicking Stories"

The race was on pavement I dont remember how long.

The reason the first one was deleted is b/c it was a "vs." thread and people dont like them or get tried of reading thought them.

oh but it was on pavement and we where pinned in 5th gear for a lil while he wasnt catching me on top end i would have to say maybe a quarter mile

yah he wasnt any faster than me in 5th gear i held my 1 to 2 quad lead the whole time

Let me get this straight, you beat a yfz with a 60lb advantage over the rider, the yfz guy can't shift to well or ride that good, you raced on pavement and won, and are bragging about it?? That's like me bragging about taking a lollipop from a 2 year old. Not very impressive, and not something I would brag about, but then again I am an azz some times.

That is what I thought...even a halftard can get one up to 5th gear though and he would have run you down....quickly.

he isnt that bad at all but i am better i am faster shifting than him how is it not impressive because of the 60pds

On a quad 10lbs is = to having 1HP... if he is 60lbs heavier that equates to 6HP difference. Then if he is a bad rider, not tuned in good, traction, tires, gearing etc. etc. all play into the end result of a drag race.

How many times did you guys race? 1.2.3.4.5.6. times?? What was the average out come?

well i have call call BS on that one, there no way in hell that you beat him. I dont care how fast you can shift. My friend has a yfz450 and he whipps me ever time, vary badly and I have a more modded engine then you, so i cant see how you beat him. You got magic gas or somthing your not telling us about. z400 are not to fast or not at all fast in pritty much stock trim . Those 450 with a pipe are really fast.

he got better traction than me i was in the sand and he was in the clear part of the road we raced ywice and beat him twice and i run super in my quad thats it nothing special and that is dead serious

I would say NO to that. I have heard 1hp per 7 pounds of rotating mass. Which is why us drag guys run aluminum axles!!! I do know on one of my drag bikes I ran a best of 4.23 that day, put a jockey on it and he ran a best of 4.07. I wiegh 220.....he wieghs 125ish. I would say both of us are pretty equal riders.

i cant believe that you beat him. Look at my sig and i raced my bro with a piped up yfz but i had my girlfriend on the back so i was like 160 pounds more than him and he beat me by about 3 - 4 quad lengths. but whatever congrats anyway.

You did not race in the exact spot and time this guy did. Or did you? He would not have beat me on a stock yfz, but I did not race there in that exact moment in time in that exact spot and in his world where the moons aligned and everything. Point is Anything can happen give Unequal riding situations.

i dont understand that race either (pavement vs sand?) dont make any sense but i guess since this guy has is much more underpowered than the yfz i guess that would make it more fair. you should try racing a raptor that would be a closer competition to your bike. i raced a raptor 660 with a procircuit full exhuast and we were dead even on take off and once i hit fifth gear i started to pull on him. the race was about a half mile strait stretch and it took about half way down the road before i finally past him but that was when i only had the fmf pipe on, and my bro beat him by 3 quad lengths with a stock yfz!!. I will be racing my bro on the ice oval this year and i expect to beat him and it is a high speed oval so we will see which bike is really faster.

actually that race was unfair for me completely.. my bike was not running well and i had just rebuilt his bike and it now is a high comp piston cams and full exhaust and intake. i wanted to race him again but it snowed so much i havnt had the chance. That is what the ice oval is going to decide.

i agree. Even the race between me and my bro wasnt quite fair but we met up on the road and he droped his hand and i let it go. big deal, i race in the woods or on the track where tallent counts not the power of the motor (except for the ice oval now)

I have more real world knowledge of engine building and tuning on these contraptions than 99% of the people here, yet when I was giving advise early on in this forum I was treated like a absolute no nothing!!! I have read posts by you here and there....and know you know what you are talking about. Then you have guys like the topic starting wasting our lives trying to fabricate a goooooood story. Then call out your credibility!!!! This is too bad for the masses. The people who know how to really make these things run beyond what is the accepted limit dont even bother posting.

I got sucked into why this dumb race was won. You are right about the rotational mass freeing up already existing HP. Sometimes I just want to take the time to post exactly why something is. I guess that is me being Terse... short to the point.

Im sorry but anyone knows that it takes a quite a few mods for a z to keep up with a yfz. i am in the process of tuning mine up, hopefully it will keep up with those quebec guys ice quads. in a 10 lap race they beat all the other competors (my bro and a couple friends) by a full lap! and they had piped up yfz's and raptor 660's. but again thier were alot of variables thier too, i wont even bother getting into it.

Easiest way to solve this to switch the riders. You ride his yfz and he rides your Z. If he still beats you then, you know yours is faster. If not, then you know its the rider.

about the sand and street thing the road was very sandy from the snow plowers and i started in the sandy part of the road so i spun a lil out of the gate. Also when i drive the yfz it puts u in the back of the seat really hard it is so crisp adn i dont know how i beat him but i did and thats all that matter to me and i couldnt have beat him without fakie and protecting my esr with zip n z, this site has helped me out a bunch adn giving me tips to beat this yfz.

I believe it. I can hand my buddy his A$$ on a 450r. with 13-40 gearing and a dyna revving to 10,500 rpm you can reach around 70 mph. I can hold my buddy off by 1 quad length all the way through 5th. not that keyboard racing matters much. if anyone really cares, I'll get a helmet cam vid of it this spring. rider weight is the key factor. 40 lb difference adds about 4hp to the slower machine.

i think i won because of the turbo lol the whilstle from the blow off valve lol

if you switch quads, the lighter rider will win. no contest with that one. its all down to weight. if you dyno them, obviously the yfz makes more power. power to weight ratio is whats winning, thats all.

it sucks sometimes being small but when it really counts for racing which i do it helps me. I race sprint cars and most racecar drivers are small. I always brag to my friend that i only bought my quad for 3400 in 06 and it was and 05 and he paid 7 grand it is kool that i can beat him just cuz im small
