Alright, I'm back again. I've been out of the quad scene for a while now but I used to be a pretty active member on the boards here. When I went off the college I just didn't have time to ride and my attention turned to cars. I've basically turned into a mustang nut so time and money pretty much stopped going to the quad.

So here's the deal, my 03 z400 has been in storage for 2-3 years now... shame on me, I know. What do you guys think I should do before firing it up. I planned on doing an oil change, fresh gas, maybe a new battery, and possibly even cleaning out the carb...? Any suggestions?

I recently bought a jeep so I'll finally have a toy hauler again. Mustangs aren't the greatest for pulling around toys...

There still seems to be a few familiar faces around here. Hope everybody has been doing well.

I dont remember ya......what area of indiana do you live?

also run some seafoam thru it to clean out the carbon etc. Check the battery before you spend the money on a new one.

You seem to be on the right track. Try jumping the battery first instead of buying a new one. Change the oil, maybe a few times after it has run a bit, clean the carb as well as the tank and lines. Put some fuel in the bowl, put it together and it should fire up. You may need a new plug as well. Good luck.

good suggestions guys, I'll def jump the battery before purchasing a new one. I think i've probably got some spare spark plugs somewhere too from way back when I was playing with the jetting... pretty sure I had them stocked up.

what would you suggest for cleaning the tank and lines... just flushing them out with some good fuel...? I'll possibly look into the seafoam stuff too, I've never really used the stuff.

I was originally from the Indy area (a little south of indy actually) but currently living in Evansville (southern Indiana)

For the tanks and lines I would suggest fresh gas, that is what I used. Also make sure the petcock is clean too. Just put some gas in it, splash it around, let it sit and then empty it out. Doing this a few times should clean it all out.

Pull you petcock and clean or replace it... It has a fine screen on it and it is varnished you will not get fuel... check your gas line from the petcock to the carb and see if it has harden and if it has replace it... check your vacume line to see if it might have harden and is leaking vacume... The battery should be replaced if it has set that long without a charge (the are only good for 2-3 years) Don't take a chance of having a dead or shorted cell and having it blow up in the machine. Acid destroys everything... Good luck! MMM

there's another familiar name. How have ya been Lolli?

I'd post up some pics of the quad, but it has litterally been untouched for the last 2-3 years. I'm big into the car scene now so my car has turned into the money pit. But now that I've got a jeep too, I can finally haul around the quad, so come spring time I would def like to start riding again.
