Plympton - Could the whine of a motorcycle engine soon be heard along Route 106?
The answer is yes if a group of motocross enthusiasts get their way,
Bill Ladd, a motocross mechanic who claims over 40 years of experience in the field wants to construct a pair of dirt bike tracks on land behind Plympton Cycles. Dubbed “Too Fun Motocross Park” the site would include two tracks, one for beginners and one for more advanced riders, along with a skateboard and BMX park that would be free to the public.
Ladd, a Brockton resident, said he was attracted to Plympton as a potential site for the park because of what he dubbed the “network” of motocross enthusiasts in the area. He lamented the lack of places for dirt bike riders to go in the area. ‘You used to be able to ride all over,” said Ladd.
Motor oil and axle grease seem to run in family for Ladd. His brother, Tony Lorusso, owns tracks in Connecticut and has won over 40 New England Motocross championships, according to the Web site transworldmotocross.com. “I wouldn’t even attempt this thing if it wasn’t for the input of my brother,” said Ladd.
Right now, Ladd said, he is in the process of “getting his ducks in a row,” meeting with town officials including Building Inspector Jeff Richards and Zoning Enforcement Officer Bob Karling. He will be making a presentation to the Zoning Board of Appeals at a later date. Ladd sounded optimistic about his dealings with local officials, “they’re great people to work with.”
“I can’t imagine what the neighbors would say,” about having the track nearby, said Karling. “He’s not building a church.” According to Ladd would need a special permit from the ZBA, since there is no mention of dirt bikes or race tracks in the town zoning code.
Another prominent name involved with the project is Halifax Fire Chief Lance Benjamino, who has raced semi-professionally for over 20 years. Benjamino said he advised Ladd on safety. “The idea is to keep the kids riding legally and off private property,” said Benjamino. Having a central, supervised place to ride would help reduce accidents, he said. The rationale, he explained, applies to fire safety as well. When you go into the woods there’s no safety,” said Ladd. “If a kid’s out there, and his helmet is scratched I want it checked. I want a safe organized environment,” said Ladd, who, when asked, acknowledged the misgivings some have about his sport.
Concerns over noise would be addressed by having the advanced track, deeper into the woods. The beginners’ track would be closer to the road and limited to smaller bikes. Ladd compared the noise level of those machines to a household lawnmower. “It’s not the Hell’s Angels coming to town,” said Ladd.
Ladd is a vocal proponent of the benefits of dirt bike riding, arguing that the activity can help kids focus on schoolwork. Among the items he included in an information packet was an article from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about a program in Roswell, Ga. that gives at-risk kids a chance to ride as a reward for good work.
Besides meeting with town officials, Ladd said he wants input from local motocross enthusiasts. He said he is already working with Brendan Barry of Plympton Cycles.
be bound by these terms.

his brother is tony, owner of rocky hill....the guy that got rid of the quad track. hopefully this guy get it up and running, sees huge income from the quads and maybe tony will open up the quad track again.
i know....wishful thinking.
3 days a week will probably be week days, no weekends when people can actually come, just like tony is doing now.

i live 10 minutes from rocky hill, but my issue with the weeks is that i dont want to pay $40 to ride for 2 hours, on a track that he didnt groom after a weekends beating from the bikes. i used to pay $30 when i had a membership and rode a perfect track for 12 hours. i still go...its all i have.
hopefully this new place will be sweet, and allow quads on a weekend that there isnt a race. it would be worth the drive from ct.
