Just for FYI for anyone in the Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois area. A few weeks ago, a friend wanted to take all the kids out somewhere for a weekend. He found a place called Haspin acres on line. It's SE of Indianapolis. About 2 hrs from Louisville, Ky. This place was very nice. They have a diner that serves breakfast and all other meals on weekends, a few lakes/ponds to fish in, you can camp anywhere on the grounds, etc, etc. They allow trucks, bikes, quads, rails...you name it. They have some awesome Harescramble trails that are marked. Green or Blue is easy, Red was fun and challenging, Black, well, black was NASTY!!!
They have an area / hill climb called the Devils backbone. I tried it but to no avail, didn't make. I did, however, break my rear fender braces bent my rear subframe, bent my handlebars and the front brake lever as I came down end over end....3 times. They have 2 tracks but aren't anything to brag about. They have an awesome drag strip though.
Be fore-warned, they are STRICT on the helmet rule. All the security guys are the local Barney Fifes and they are tough on the speeds inside the actual campground area. Though you are allowed to camp anywhere in the park.
We planned to stay for 2 days and were having so much fun, we stayed an additional 2 days. Takes lots of food if you plan to cook yourself or you can buy at the diner. They sell ice there too. But most of all, take alot of your own gas. They only have one gas station and they only sell 87 octane. the nearest high octane gas station is 25 miles away and they're "super unleaded" is 89. Plus Indiana charges $.18 tax/gal on top of the national average.
But we had a great time watching all the drunken idiots in trucks and jeeps flipping and rolling down hillclimbs. If you decide to visit, do you mapping out well. It took us 5 hrs to get there, 2 1/2 to get back. Coming from Ky. It located in Laurel, In., Pop. @ 25.
