Its sunday morning and waiting for the phone call to meet up to hit the woods. Its been snowing for about an hour so there is a little more than a good dusting. Was planning on climbing some hills today but might have to stick to trails if the snow gets too thick. Either way its gonna be a good day! Also getting ready for the ice! Ice racing season is coming soon! its been down to about 10-15 degrees here at night and the ice is building on the lakes. Does anyone have the lowering kits for the z? I thought about it last year but decided against it. what do you guys think?

i think the lowering kit woul work great for ice racing.. give you a lower center of gravity and better handeling. i have seen them on ebay for a decent price.

you need to have a photo bucket account and any riding pics riders need to have helmets (site rule not mine)

A MUST have for winter riding is the powermadd gauntlets. We went for a sweet ride today and it snowed and it was cold. I have the gauntlets on and I was wearing the same gloves I wear in the summer time without my hands being cold. Highly reccomend them to anyone that does winter riding. Hopefully wags can get the pics up soon and/or videos up. Climbed some nice hills and did some fun jumps. cant wait to see the pics wags!

Yeah we are kinda locals so there are ways in and out. Ive never had a problem but I hear they dont want you in there mostly cuz of the expensive equipment. Theres always one or two jacka$$es who try to drive the machines around and ruin it for everyone else.

Great riding though. There will be some pics up later, we found a nice little jump to take pics at. The rappy 700 goes good. Blows the 660 out of the water hands down! I think he has motor work done too but not sure excatly what hes got done.

Dec 8 2008, 07:18 AM
nice...yeah we went riding down there and there must have been over 100 machines there easy it was pretty crazy..real good riding hill climbs, jumps and a bunch of people dragging ..im about an hour north of dayton.. poland right by auburn/lewiston..
that pit youre riding in doesnt look bad at all either i wouldnt mind finding that one once i get another quad when my part out is done

Ever ridden in newdam pit in Sanford? Its turned into a swamp land now but 4 years and earlier that used to be the place to be on sundays! at least 100 people through there all day and night! there was a pond in the middle of the pit and usually if you went in the afternoon you can see some idiots trying to skim the water (probly from liquid courage) some would make it and alot didnt. That used to be great but got closed down due to idiots burning cars in the pit and shooting guns and stupid stuff like that. again, ruined it for everyone
xxnightraven73x
Dec 8 2008, 07:36 AM
i dont think so i know my buddy wants to head up by augusta he said theres some nice pits up there to mess around in..depends on what i find cheap over the winter and how much more of my z i get rid of haha..but there was a place like that up here the buckfield railroad bed had all kinds of nice pits off the sides and they closed them all down for idiots burning cars and all that..there was a real nice one with a good 50+' step up and thats closed now because of idiots..alot of the good riding places around here are getting closed down because of that type of sh*t
skinna284
Dec 8 2008, 07:48 AM
Yeah thats pretty much the main reason trails and pits get closed, from idiots abusing thier privilage.
I went up to the casco/sebago lake area probly 2 or 3 months ago. Awsome trail system out there, all marked out cuz its the pipeline trails that are legal to ride. You can litterally follow it to canada. they say snowmobiles actually go to canada from there.
xxnightraven73x
Dec 8 2008, 07:57 AM
you mean jugtown trails? thats right by my house maybe 10-15 mins away ive heard they go forever we usually never went that far on them.mostly because i ride with 4x4 guys and they p*ss and moan when there isnt a ton of crappy mud holes and all the junk a sport quad isnt good for haha..they think its real funny till we hit a straight and i blow by them on the rear tires..course thats another reason we didnt go too far the 434 wasnt to kind on fuel haha
skinna284
Dec 8 2008, 08:15 AM
Jugtown trials? Im not sure but we passed sebago lake and it was like 10-15 after the lake. Most likely the same area. I went with some 4x4s too cuz they know the trail system by heart and all they wanted to do was hang out in mud holes and all we wanted to do was find some jumps and rip. We had to wait for them soo much that day but it was aight. haha funny story... we found this small pit off of the main trail and found a little table top jump. so me, another z400 and a honda 450 were all jumping it no problem then one of the guys on the 4x4 wanted to try it! haha shoulda had a camera. he goes WAY too fast and hits it off center and lands on the left wheels only. he ended up flying off the machine like 30 feet away and the machine just landed on its wheels and putted to a stall. it was soo funny to see a 4x4 go flying sideways. it wasnt so funny when we found out he punctured a lung from the fall.

so he went home early that day but just goes to show ya, you should exceed your limitations.
xxnightraven73x
Dec 8 2008, 08:23 AM
wow that must have been a sight to see and one bad fall..all 4x4 guys seem to drag a$$ and play in those mud holes oh well they like mud we like sand and jumping to each their own i guess...maybe next season we can all have a get together ride or something..i plan on getting something to ride next season i just dont know what yet haha

The new z400 is pretty bad ass. I would love to get a new one but cant justify the money right now. too many other bills have priority. Yeah I dont think im going up north riding again till summer time. Just local stuff and lakes. Im planning on going out next sunday on the ice to check the thickness where my friend lives, in a cove, and the cove has been frozen for like 3 weeks now, guessing 3 inches or so... as long as it stays cold, ill be out there ice fishing and depending on how much is safe ice, may get a little ice racing track marked out. well see. if not, january ill be out there for sure.

Its was the first snow of the year that acumulated. I guess its not really riding IN snow but there was about and inch on the ground.
You can find the gauntlets at your local dealer. thats where I got mine for like $40.

I know I was just playing about the snow thing. I got about a half inch and was stoked to go sliding around in it. Have fun though. I know I cant wait for it to get warm again, the dirt down here in the corn field I ride in is extremely hard in the winter and bumpy as hell with 3-6" deep rutts all across the field.

Heres a question, After riding in the snow we got (all melted today its like 50*) My front shocks are squeaking their asses off. What could have caused that?
It wasn't doing it prior to the snow and i doubt its the warmer temp cause when I got my Z it was 65* out and I didn't have this problem. I rode through 2' deep rivers this past fall and through some swampy trails and he days after it wasn't doing it.
I was riding for about a 15 min, stopping, slowing down and cruising and couldn't hear it then all of a sudden it started doing it. I got off and was pushing down on the front bumper and I could hear it.
I also rode yesterday and it was 35* out and it wasnt doing it. could it be from going from cold to warm temp? Has anyone else heard this on their Z?
z400rider1292
Dec 9 2008, 12:09 PM
mine does the same thing after riding in snow or sand pits.. mine isnt the shock tho its where they bolt to the frame and a-arms.. lube the crap out of everything, the water wrecks the grease...
Josh
Dec 9 2008, 12:14 PM
I was thinking it was the busings. Is there anyway to get or put grease fittings on the a arm and shock mount bushings? Do aftermarket shocks and arms come with them?
o2bfst
Dec 9 2008, 12:17 PM
my HDUSA arms have grease zerks in them so compaines have them some dont im sure you can drill a hole and but a zerk in it. i think z44kicksazz did that to his stock arms. as for shocks no i havent ever seen any with zerks in them not saying that someone hasnt ever done it.
wags9601
Dec 9 2008, 05:13 PM
Mine was also squeeking after riding in that pit. Not sure of the cause!!

wags, its cuz your machine is all clapped out kid! hahaha
xxnightraven73x
Dec 9 2008, 06:12 PM
sand and water in the shock mounts,a-arm mounts,in/on the shock rod and scrapeing and wearing the seal and lets not forget water washes out the ball joints and tierod ends..all of those can cause your squeeking or creeking in the front end
skinna284
Dec 9 2008, 06:20 PM
Actually mine was squeeking pretty bad last year too and im pretty sure mine was the a-arm bushings. I think all I did was spray some wd-40 on the bushings and the noise went away. havnt heard it since...
xxnightraven73x
Dec 9 2008, 06:34 PM
that would be what i ment as a-arm mount-just trying to keep things simple for people who wouldnt understand theres a bushing inside there and when dirt and water get in there they creek or squeek....
