Inside the stock mechanism there is a return spring. If you take the cable and go to a hotstart, what makes it return once it's engaged?
Also, it looks like I might nott have enough adjustment to take up the slack against the hotstart.

mine returns by itself so it must have some kind of internal return on the other side, as far as adjustment i don't really know what to tell you it took most of my adjustment to get it tight but it worked...

the spring inside the switch is just so that the knob automatically springs back. when u push in the hotstart lever it'll be loose, when u click it back into first gear it'll tighten up.
and yes if u adjust the cable in the middle it is plenty of room.
if you have trouble with the cable not being long enough, try mounting it like mine. I have a +1 stem and higher bars

I've got it adjusted all the way out and I could still use about 3/8" more.......is there any other way to take up some more slack? What about where it goes into the case? Is it just another ball on the end?
Right now I've got it real close and stuck a little piece of a nylon spacer against the sheath stop (or whatever you'd call where the outer cable sheath stops) but it's still not right.

The cable itself is plenty long.

i guess the length would depend on what clutch perch ur using too. a spacer is a good idea, just wrap electrical tape around it afterwards so it cant slip off when your in reverse. otherwise once i added the roll pin onto the barrel, that took up all the slack i needed.

you dont want it supertight otherwise it would be like having a little tension on the reverse knob at all times which i can imagine wouldn't be good
