I have searched this forum but cannot find any information on this...

Can a KFX450r thumb throttle with reverse lever be used on a KFX400 in place of the thumb throttle and utilize the reverse lever for the reverse on the KFX400.

I have limited movement in my right wrist and using a Dr D. does not work as it has to mount to far away I have considered doing a hot start swap but sat on a new KFX450r and saw how the reverse is built into the thumb throttle housing and it was very comfortable for me to operate.

I have seen these on ebay for about 30.00 and would love to get on use it on my KFX400.

huh I think it should work..probably have to look at how big the ends are though..

heres a pic for the rest of you who like me didnt know what he was talking about

The reverse lever is actually a separate piece than the throttle assembly.

I see what your saying. I guess the next question is if it would bolt to the stock thumb throttle or if the KFX540 would still be needed. I my just have to buy one to see if this can be modded?

Anybody else have any ideas or suggestions.

if its only like $30 on ebay snag one up and try it out..
Camaro1976
guessing that the lever is bolted onto the lower handlebar clamp, and the rest looks identical to the z clamp, so i'd assume it would bolt right onto stock

You are correct Camaro.

Its $26.99 for all the reverse lever parts from Riva Racing. Now I'm very curious if this will work.....

I have went ahead and bought the used throttle/reverse assembly off ebay. Maybe that I only need the lower piece that has the reverse if not I at least have the whole assembly to see if I can make it work? I am concerned that the reverse cable will not be long enough and if so what are the folks that are using a hot start lever as a reverse using for a cable?
eric.w.13
it should be long enough.

sweet love taboo

It’s not easy to have a great relationship with your boy/girlfriend, partner, or spouse. But it’s not impossible, either — it takes some work, of course, but it’s work, work that’s a joy when everything comes together.

A lot of times, though, the work isn’t enough. We get in our own way with ideas and attitudes about relationships that are not ...

And what the hell does this crap have to do with my post? take you poor relationship to Dr. Phil I have been happily married for 15 years now!...go hack someone elses post.

Haha where did you get that quote from? You should just be able to reroute your cable...

Soooooooo, figure anything out yet?

Well I am please to say that this is a TOTAL BOLT ON and bolts to the stock KFX400 throttle! my factory reverse cable was long enough once it was routed under the tank. the cable fits great, the lever takes the same size barrel that's on the cable and fit like it's factory! icon_cool.gif

my only concern is that the swing of this lever seems to be shorter that the swing of the stock knob, I was able to adjust it just fine as there is plenty of adjustment room in the cable but I am wondering that if the cable being adjusted out to put the adjustment in the "sweet spot" for the reverse to work is doing bad things to the internal workings? It all seems to be working perfectly though with no problems that I can tell. I guess time will tell with the shorter adjustment with the cable.

One thing to note is that in the parts list you need to get the little bracket that holds the cable in place. mine came with it since mine was used. I looked on the online schematic for the parts and it looks like it shows it as part of the cable? It bolts onto the plate along with the lever, the cable fits into it perfect and holds it firm. there was about 1/2 inch of open cable exposed that I put a small piece of tubing over to keep dirt out giving it a factory look.

all-in-all a solid set-up having reverse right on the throttle. Works great for the folks that still have the factory blob on the left that can get in the way of using most clutch mounted hot starts... and all for the cost of around $30 dollars!

KFX450R PARTS NEEDED:
mounting plate 46012B - this replaces the bottom bracket of the throttle.
Lever and bolt 13168 & 92172 - duh.
washer under lever 92022 - needed so lever swings freely.
cable support bracket and bolt (no part number could be part of cable) - holds cable in place.

Now I need one of those really cool key switch plates that a member here made (he's out) to move my key to the reverse hole? anybody got one that they can live without? icon_biggrin.gif

gt thunder sells the ring to put your key switch on the fender for about 10$

That looks to big, may be for mounting on the frame? What I am wanting is one of the plates that mount over the hole where the reverse was. drzoo2 made them but he's out here is one on a KFX that I am talking about...http://suzuki.theatvchannel.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=84943&hl=

eric.w.13
the gtthunder one does the same thing. drzoo does not make them anymore. he might have a dash plate or 2 left to relocate the switch at the handle bar but i think he is out of the ones to put it on the reverse spot

the size doesn't look right to me but I could easily be wrong. I will check with gthunder about it. thanks for the tip!

I got one of these. Looks great. I couldn't figure out how to make it work with the stock thumber. I ended up getting one from Motion Pro. The levers on the bottom not the top. Works great. I want to get rid of the ASV w/rotator clamp. Looks great with my ASV levers but won't work with my thumber. It's red. PM me if interested.

That is an option, and it is quite inexpensive but like a hot start both require a longer reach if you have the stock blobs as I do, also it is more expense than the parts from the KFX450 that are cheaper, closer and works with the factory cable... something to consider.

Any chance you can break it down again and show us all the pieces/parts so we know what to look for?

I've been hunting eBay top and bottom and cannot find this assembly anywhere.

Sorry for the delay, I'm on vacation. I listed the parts and part numbers earlier in this post check check it out. let me know if you still need some help looking things up or have any questions. I have been using it on my KFX 400 while on vacation and it has been working great!

I'll check back when I return from vacation, been riding in Georgia and Tennessee.

Good luck with it.
