a few weeks ago i got rid of my old yamaha warrior and found a 2006 kfx 400 i liked and went and got it. it has the following parts:

full big gun exhaust
k and n filter
jetted properly
big gun over rev box
tag fatty bars with a different dash
itp gncc holeshots (20")
nerf bars
ex pull clutch lever
rear parking brake block off
13t front and 41t rear sprocket

and the only thing iv had to do to it was put front wheel bearings and rear axle bearings in. a week before i got it he had the bike serviced and valves adjusted. i paid 2000 for it does that sound like a good deal

what kind of maintenance work should be done to this thing to keep it running good, internal/external? as far as riding the bike it really has alot of power. but what are your thoughts on the exhaust? i was thinking about going with the hmf race pipe. loud doesnt bother me at all. but i would like something a little louder than what i have and still make decent power. and suggestions? thanks

Sounds like a great deal to me. Maintence always keep that airfilter clean, might want to check the cam chain and change oil regulary. Why would you want a louder exhaust?? To sound cool? just closes down riding areas is all. Anyways i would switch to an uni filter if you ride in really dusty areas.

all you guys say that the sound closes riding areas, but around here i have not heard of one place thats been closed due to sound... tracks, desert, forests, anywhere...

Mitchy, its because of where there are trails that go by houses all the old people complain of the noise.. and yes tons of places have been shut down from this..its just another thing for people to complain about.. if your riding trails only get a spark arrestor..that big gun should be pretty loud..try removing the spark arrestor

An `06 KFX400 w/ some basic mods...for $2,000.00...

(assuming that it`s in VGC & not 1/2 trashed out or anything like that)...yeah...you got a pretty good deal IMO. clap.gif

As was said previously by Suzuki33...clean the air filter often & change the oil regularly & keep an eye on the cam chain & valve clearances. I (along w/ many others) would HIGHLY recommend switching from the ACCT (Automatic Cam Chain Tensioner...aka the Automatic Cam Chain S t r e t c h e r!!!) to a MCCT (Manual Cam Chain Tensioner). IMO the MCCT helps ALOT. You can either buy one for a Hayabusa street bike...or ya can buy a similar one such as an A.P.E. one or one from off of Thumper Talk (the one from Thumper Talk costs considerably less than the one`s that A.P.E. sells...approx. $20.00 or so less) or ya can convert your stock ACCT over to a MCCT (there`s a thread on here that shows/explains how to do it) for next to nothing if ya have some general mechanical abilities.

Oh yeah!...it wouldn`t be a bad idea to check to see if the stator bolts have been lock-tited in (the factory basically neglected to do it & it`s been a common problem w/ the Z`s & it`s clones (the KFX & the DVX). If/when they come loose & start to back out...they`ll trash your stator & most likely damage your flywheel pretty badly too. This has happened to MANY people. icon_frown.gif
Also, since your`s is an `06 model...depending on when in `06 it was made...it MAY have the magnesium side case cover on it (on the right hand side, where the clutch is...IN the motor...NOT the clutch lever up on the handlebars!...just wanted to be 100% CLEAR on that! mhihi.gif ) or it MAY NOT...it just depends (on whether or not it was made after the factory stopped using the magnesium side covers OR if the previous owner had already taken it in for the "Customer Satisfaction" repair work...which is/was a free service that the dealerships performed that corrected the problem (the magnesium covers had VERY BAD corrosion issues due to the chemical reaction of being in contact w/ standard antifreeze). This was a MAJOR issue starting w/ the `05 model & it`s my understanding that it continued part way into the `06 model year also. The "fix" is to switch it out for an `03/`04 side case cover (or any other model year cover that`s NOT a magnesium one).
The mechanical seal in the water pump is also another thing that tends to go bad on these motors occasionally (you`ll know it when ya start noticing antifreeze seeping/dripping out of the weep hole on the bottom of the waterpump housing on the right side cover).
Another thing (this is the last one I`ll mention!!!...I don`t want ya to start havin` regrets that ya bought a Z/KFX!!! mhihi.gif )...pay CLOSE attention to your chain adjustment!!!...& maintain it properly. (I`m not going to go into details on why...there`s already been a few heated discussions over it & I don`t want to re-hash them!!!).

Don`t worry!!!...you`ll LOVE your KFX & you`ll forget all about that crappy ole` Yamaha Warrior that ya got rid of man!!! icon_biggrin.gif
