How much does a DRZ flywheel weigh in comparison to a stock KFX flywheel? I found one for a good price I may pick up if it will help.
Joshz400_03
what was it like 8-10 oz lighter? TT is 16oz lighter..id get it
Cochise
So its worth while? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesnt a lighter flywheel mean it revs faster, thus accelerating faster? I assume the trade off would be if you dont keep the revs up in the woods it would stall easier, correct?
eric.w.13
in theory but you will not stall any easier. the z400 flywheel weighs 60oz or somewhere around there. you will not miss 8oz. but it will rev a little bit faster
Camaro1976
yeah it helps

It will help a ton.. I can make you a deal on a stock DRZ flywheel if you are interested. The TT flywheel made a huge difference on my DRZ, so a DRZ flywheel will make a big difference on the Z as well.

How much? The one I found is $35 to my front door.

Well. I bought it. Now I gotta get a stator cover gasket, a flywheel puller, and wait until my next oil change so I can install it as well as my magnetic drain plug. Might order a new woodruff key as well, better safe than sorry!
Cochise
Oh and BTW, for anyone else who wants one, there is one for $35 shipped on eBay, ends in 4 days, one for $48 shipped with buy it now. Search DRZ400 or KLX400 Flywheel.
eric.w.13
you shouldn't need a woodruff key.
cataway
i took both to a PO and weighed them ,the drz is 8.6 oz lighter

I shouldnt NEED it, but it couldnt hurt.

I snapped my key taking out the flywheel this time, the first time the stock flywheel was taken off it was fine. Luckily the dealer had one in stock, just make sure they get the right one. It is under the magneto section not the crank section.

I installed a T.T Flywheel, I figured that if I was going to shed some weight I might as well shed a pound (-16oz) and see what it does.

My experience: It helped alot with reving no doubt about it. You can just hear the difference when you clutch and rev it up.

Secondly about the stalling....man I put it in drove it around the farm and was like man what the heck are people talking about stalling it felt the same as stock at the time (remember that) well I went on a few trail rides flat land with my pals and loved the faster reving while coming out of the turns....so a few weekends later I visted home and decided we all would all go on a ride (Where I live we ride a lot of mnt land up one side and down the other pretty ruff stuff....well this is when the story was told man that thing was night and day different. Before I could honestly drink a cold drink and ride up the mnt now I was on the clutch trying to get it not to stall on the rocks and hills....and sometimes it wld and really pissed me off because it made me feel like I couldnt even ride.....I am running the stock 14tooth, but still man what a difference when you was lugging trying to climb side of a mnt..it honestly pissed me off so bad that day I was considering pulling it out (sounds crazy) but of course I didnt. I just am going to have to get used to it like everything else. I hoped this helped and maybe could help others.
eric.w.13
once you get used to it you will be fine. i dont notice mine anymore

doesnt a lighter flywheel mean you get more low end but less top end?
Cochise
Got he flywheel today. Box made me cringe and lose a little faith. However the product itself is in good sape. One thing I noticed is the DRZ wheel is a tad bit taller, is this something I should worry about?

I ride trails and race short course, so TQ is my best friend.

The stocker gives you the ability to lug, like a stroker does.
The lighter flywheels give it faster revs, more like a race bike.

It's a trade I guess.. i'm going to get one soon.
I rode one at the MX track last weekend that had a T.T. flywheel, and holy cow. That thing just felt faster than mine off the turns.
Still beat him though.. mhihi.gif
