I am trying to get together a group to ride Hatfield McCoy Little Coal trails later this summer. If anyone is interested, I will keep this post updated with the dates (it will be a Friday Evening/Sat/Sun). I also welcome any comments about this particular trail system if anyone has ridden there before as I have not.

Im interested and know of at least three others that would be as well, another chance to use my pass for the year. Any reason to hit the trail. Dont have any info on that trail system though, wasnt one we hit on our weekend down there.

I am planning on going down later in the summer too with i think 3 people not including myself. Not sure when we are going but when are you planning on going?

browning fork is a better trail. Little coal is basically flat roads with little technical stuff.

I liked the Pinnacle Creek trail system, it wasnt technical really, but fast moving and a lot of fun. At least it was for the most part, until I hit a mud hole running flat out trying to catch up to the rest of the group I was with. Then almost came of the bike coming to a crawl, lessen learned, but I would love to ride that one again. Wouldnt go back to Rock House, to rough right now, especially after the flooding washed a lot of the trails away and they are still rebuilding them.

We haven't set an exact date yet, still wrenching on quads - will post with a date once we get it nailed down.

I'd probably be game for any time in August or September...or even later than that if that's what you're planning. I'd have my girlfriend and her brother and possibly some other people too--I'd have to ask around.

We just got through riding pinnacle and rock house all week. Well worth the trip!

Me, my brother, and at least 3 others are planning to go Sept. 4-7 (Labor day weekend). Probably stay at Rapid Falls camp site like last time and drive to several of the trail heads, a new ride each day.

going down Sept 24th with a crew of 15. Staying at thunder lodge.

Hmmm...interesting...I think that might've just booked my Hatfield riding trip in September.

Anyone updated on when they are going to HM in September, myself and at least four others are definitely going Sept. 4-7.

I know pimpit_r6 is for sure going the last weekend of September...25th-27th. I will probably make that the weekend that I go too I think. I've got too much going on between now and then to make it any sooner.

i agree. ive been to browning fork 2 times and love it. it has the biggest trail system and the most amount of the high difficulty trails. its awesome there.

i would definitely go but since i lost my job, i cant afford to go very far from home. even though i only live about 3 hours away from there. if that.

Anyone going Labor Day weekend?

I rode little coal last year. Mostly wide open green trails. Some of the blues can be pretty fun and the blacks were entertaining but doable. We used it as a worm up for Bear Wallow I think (the next one South of Little Coal). That was a lot more serious. Had a great time. We're going back down in october for trailfest at two of the other trails.

Trip cancelled due to job losses, lay offs, wage cuts. icon_cry.gif The crew of 15 turned into a crew of 4... Going to Wayne National at the end of Sept for the day or two.

Trip this time wasnt real great, had quite a few breaks this weekend, and Sunday it rained off and on all day making the trails real slick, muddy, and somewhat of a pain. The guys on the dirtbikes were all over the place and slowed the rest off us down.

Thanks for all the responses, hope some people were able to connect for a ride. We ended up going Sept 19th and 20th as a last minute decision. (Family life for my friend and I so when we saw the opportunity to go, we jumped at it). Anyway, Little coal was fun, there were very few people riding so we enjoyed a pretty fast pace on the open trails. I even ran over a rattlesnake on trail 18. It struck at the rear tires, I probably would have to if someone ran me over in 4th gear. (I guess this has happened several times this year on that trail, according to the campsite owner). I'd recommend Little Coal for Novice riders of all ages, the trails are easy, but its was fun change from riding the technical stuff we were used to riding. I think we'll go for Rockhouse or Bear Wallow some time in the spring. icon_cool.gif

I would recommend bear wallow over rockhouse, I just thick its a little too rough on a quad. May be funner on a dirt bike, but within a half hour at rockhouse I bent the lip up pretty badly on a front wheel and I wasnt even riding half as hard as I normally do.
