I've been thinking about getting a ltr or a kfx 450. All I hear about is how the tranny and top end of the ltr have horrible problems. Could someone explain to me the problems, what causes them, and how to avoid them? Is it just certain years or power level?

On the kfx would a pc3 fix the hard starting issue? What is the deal with the cranks exploding?

dont know about the kfx, but with the ltr it was the 06 and 07s that had some top end problems i think and the 08s break 3rd gear very easily, i broke it on mine.....the 2009s may be better but i think they are changing alot for 2010

I know that i can say that my friend who has the 06 or 07 blew up his tranny, and it messed the whole motor up, cases, flywheel oil pump 3 out of 5 gears and more, he ended up getting a stage three yoshi mottor, and a bullet proof tranny... I was really into the LTR's until EVERYone who i ride with at the track breaks them trannies... i am going to get a yammama if i where going to get a 450... my other friend has that and only problem he has had is clutch, and that is goin to happen to anything if you ride hard enough

if you change your oil at least every other ride and KEEP YOUR AIR FILTER CLEAN!!!!!!!!! your top end will last you a long time

I know people say to change the oil changed almost all the time like your sayin, but a lot of people who rides consist of teens too, who dont have the 30-35 bucks to change their oil after every two rides, i know its the right thing to do, but i try to do mine after every 5... it dosent look too bad, and has seemed to work, i have keep my filter clean though, and havent had a problems from that either...

those play a big role in the life of your piston rings and valves i know this becouse i bought a 400ex when i got it home and checked the air filter it was dry and dirty i test rode it with none of my friends there and didn't know that it was smoking i ended up rebuilding it with in 2 weeks of owning it the same thing with my ltr there is very little time on it since it was new but they never changed the oil or cleaned the air filter i had to rebuild it with in 1 week of owning it
