Hey guys, i'm new to the forum, so go easy on me. I have a 3.5" lowered 2007 DVX with an HMF, dynojet jet kit, dynatek cdi and a K&N (w/no lid). My next thing i want to do is sprockets. I've read everyone is running a 13 tooth front sprocket, but i want to go faster. is the 38 to small for the rear?
Here's a pic of my dvx without the lowering kit and nerf bars.

15t front or 38t rear will give you more top end. I'm running a 15t front and have an extra 38t rear that I bought here used 1x by the guy. I never used it. Good condition if you want it. Aluminum. PM me

Did it feel like you lost a lot of bottom end when you went to the 15 tooth?

I've heard people say that but no I didn't. A Z has so much low end grunt to begin with. I pulled away in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th from a preddy 500 and then 5th gear it walked away with ease. I changed to a 15t and I pulled away slower and in 5th I stayed right with him. Big difference. With 20" tires. I didn't want to use the rear sprocket because I don't have a good rear swinger skid so I figured I would bash it and bend it on the trails. I kept the rusty stock 40t.

what do you think would be better, 15 tooth or the 38?

I want to get a 38 tooth, but it depends on the track i ride, i was goin to buy Z400's but a job never went through, i have work now, but with my Gforce axle seems like it would be a PITA changing the rears every time.. cause the 2 main tracks i ride, one takes a lotta low end the other not so much, so i may try a 15 in the front, just dont wanna mess with my saver...

Like I said I wanted to use the 38t rear but I would smash it without a good rear skid. For sale if either of you want it. I'm probably never gonna use it becuase I have 2 stockers for back-up.

14/38 = 52 teeth, a 12/42 and a 14/40 =54 teeth, a 13/42 =55 teeth. These are the 4 different combos I run depending on which track I'm on or which kind of xc terrain I'm riding.
Anybody know if the adjustment on the stock swinger will allow for any of these combos with the max difference of 3 teeth, to fit with the same chain length?

I lengthened the adjustment holes for additional adjustment. A lot easier than messing around with links.

ICANZU. Does it really make a diff if you have same number of sproket teeth, just diff front and rear? I could maybe see it but wouldnt it almost balance back out to stock?

Yeah I think that you are right about that. I may just have a stretched chain because I can barly get the 14/40 to tighten enough so, so much for a 14/38 combo with that chain.
The real question I guess, is will a new stock length
un-stretched chain actually tighten enough to adjust correctly for the 14/38 set up, or will I have to remove a link? If I do have to remove a link, will the 13/42 still work? Its a 3 tooth difference.
XC Z440, The lengthening of the adjustment wholes sounds like a really good idea. I'm not the handiest tool guy in the world but I bet I could get it done with a good tip or two. Did you just pull the bolts, mark it and grind? Any draw back to doing that mod??
By the way, how many links in a stock chain? 96???
Thnx

yes 96...
I have replaces my carrier bolts with Grade 8 bolts, standard, cause metric wasent long enough, and a different thread, not so fine, so dirt cant get stuck in there, had to do it after my swinget was drug through mud when axle snapped, and think itll be a lot stronger, only down side is that you gotta use a wrench on bottom to tighten and loosen, until i fab something up

I'll let you know as soon as I get my 38 tooth sprocket. My dvx is almost new. I have maybe 10 hours on it since i bought it in early 08.

I have experienced no bad side affects to lengthening the slots, as long as you don't over-do it. I acutally pulled the whole swing arm and took it to work where i threw it on the drill press. Then just connected the slot to the hole and bam! You could do it with a simple metal file and hand drill if you had the time and patience for it.
EDIT: I also did the same as Mitch by replacing the bolts. I had problems with them getting filled with dirt and everything, and after snapping two of the stockers i went to the store and got some bolts and washers. Works great IMO.
