I was at the silver lake dunes in mich. and it was not so nice to my carrier bearings> I am looking to replace them but i was wondering is there anything better then stock out there. And if so what type and what brand?
Camaro1976
I'd go with either all balls or pivot works

i feel the biggest problem with the bearing that come in the carrier is that theres is only one seal one the bearing and no way to get more grease to them , grease gets squeezed out the bearing water gets in then they rust.
make sure the bearing you get have seals on both sides .

the same it true with the front wheels to, no inside seals and no way to get grease to them

i drilled my carrier and screwed in a grease fitting. then i pulled the seal out of the inside of the bearing and filled my carrier full of grease. no more problems to date and that has been 2 years i guess.

ive been using all balls in everything. theres no way id ever waste my money on stock crap. you can get a set of aftermarket bearings for half the price of stock. a friend of mine told me to go to NAPA to get my bearings. i guess they got all different kinds and they dont cost an arm and a leg. i havent tried it yet. look on ebay. you can get all balls or pivot works for a good price.

where on the carrier did you driil? i can only see doing it on maybe the front side but it would be inside the swing arm.

when my bearing went i contemplated doing a grease zerk in the carrier but like you say '' were to put it''
after a time of thinking about it i could of drilled a hole in many different places ,put in a zerk ,filled it with grease and then removed the zerk and plugged the hole.
its not like ya have to grease the rear end every day it just needs to have grease in there if the seals are not on the inside of the carrier

in the very back. i have to take the adjuster bolt plate off the back to get to it. i will try to take a pic tonight if i remember. plus my quad is really muddy right now

on another note the GT thunder rear link didnt come with a grease fitting either. a couple passes with a mill, then a drill then wolah grease fitting. i always feel better when i can grease my bearings

thats cool. id like to see that. you know, i went from a yamaha banshee to my Z and i about sh%t cause i couldnt grease my a-arm bushings and axle bearings. my carrier on the banshee had a grease fitting. i think the guy i bought it off of put it on. i was just kind mad cause i thought id be changing a-arm bearings all the time. so far ive only had to change the top ones once and im waiting to get the money to do the lower. i bought it brand new in 06 and have ridden the hell out of it.
