Hey all, I know there's not a whole lot of guys/gals around the area, but I'm planning a trip down to Wayne National Forest on August 15th. It's tentative as of right now...so nothing is set in stone.

If we go, chances are we will park at William's Campground which is on the north end of the trail, close to the New Straitsville loop. I will have my girlfriend, myself, the girlfriends brother and a buddy of mine. My buddies brother might come, but not positive...

That's all I have or know for now.

Hit me up if you're interested.

im not sure where that parking lot is. i go down 33 from columbus direction and turn left at the wayne entrance right after 33 turns into single lanes. i cant remember what its called. on the map i think its lot2. im down though.
hackattack
As I talk to more people...the more it is a go.

Here's where I'll be parked at more than likely. The trail head is right across the street from the driveway of the campground. You go up a little bit and the main corridor is to the right and then the New Straitsville loop is to the left.

I will be coming down through Columbus as well from Marion, Ohio. I am trying to be on the trail by about 9:30 a.m...my buddy doesn't get off until 7 a.m. Saturday morning so depending on what time he meets me at my girlfriends house will dictate what time we're leaving.

I will keep in touch on this topic as it gets closer to time. If anyone is serious about it, I will give them my cell phone number when we know for sure it's a go.

Trailrider19, where will you be coming from?

so maybe we can meet up on 33 some where and i can just follow you there. that would be easier than me trying to find the place. i can meet you right on 33 down by logan. i can give you my number to call me when you get close.
hackattack
Yeah, that'd be cool with me. I'll hit you up when it comes closer to the trip to know for sure if I'm going to make it or not and then we can make the plans! icon_biggrin.gif
pimpit_r6
Hackattack & trailrider19, Gonna try really hard to get down there. I might come down solo because everytime I schedule something it never fails someone's chit always breaks down due to lack of maintenance and prepping. And I dont want to ruin a perfect day of riding due to someone else's irresponsibility. Been there done that.
hackattack
That's cool Rick...so far right now I might have about 4-5 people with me so there will be plenty of people to ride and BS with along the way!!! mhihi.gif

Well, today at work just sealed the deal for me to go to Wayne on the 15th. We got a 12% cut in pay and we have 13 days of paid time off to use by the end of the year...YES, over 2 FULL work weeks to use by December 31st!!!!

So, I'm taking the 14th off and may end up riding BOTH days now!!! mhihi.gif I won't know until a couple of days before, but I am FOR SURE going on the 15th now and as far as I know it's going to be me and my girlfriend for sure and then my buddy from back home should be going and possibly his brother as well as my girlfriends brother...won't know all that probably until the night before, but regardless, I'm going!!!

For those of you who want to ride at Wayne National Forest on April 15th, heres what you need. (Ohio Residents)

1. A registration sticker at your local BMV $34.75
2. Your spark arrester. Sometimes they check,
sometimes they dont. Taking mine just in case...
I cant think of anything else at this moment. If anyone else has something to say please chime in.

hackattack
Rick, haha I know what you mean man! I'm going to be mad if one of my buddies can't go because I'm doing all this work on my '03 to get it ready and be my luck...he'll back out at the last minute because of his wife. Otherwise, if he goes...he won't be able to talk to me for like a month because she'll hold a grudge. But, she's psycho.......mhihi.gif

Adding to your list of the registration and the sparky...it's good to carry your drivers license or photo ID just so they can verify against your registration. Oh, and I've never even seen a DNR or forest ranger down there...but that doesn't mean they aren't on the trail--we've just never been in the wrong place at the wrong time you could say mhihi.gif. Typically they leave people alone unless there's some complaints, from what I know. I don't know anyone who has ever been checked down there either...

Other than that, you're typically only at the most like 30-40 minutes away from the truck and there's plenty of cross roads, etc if you break or need tools/parts. I will have a bunch of tools and some replacement parts...but mostly for my dirt bike, not my quad. I will bring some oil and that stuff though but that's standard that you should carry on ANY ride, really.

I'm getting excited!!! clap.gif
trailrider19
not only do you have to have the sticker thru the BMV, but you also need to buy the Wayne National day pass at one of the sellers around. the easiest place to get them at, that i know of, is at Ask Power Sports in Lancaster or Lancaster Sport Cycles also in Lancaster. they have them for sure.
pimpit_r6
Hackattack, Trailrider19 ... Hack I understand about your buddies wife, My ex-wife was the same way (blah ,blah blah) mhihi.gif Sounds good, I just gotta get that one day pass. Would any of you guys know if there is a restaurant down there? Didnt know if I should pack a lunch. Yeah man, I am getting pumped up for this ride. Nothing else going on, 7x10 trailer will be finished monday. Just have to get the treated wood and run my new light kit.

im ready to go too. i havent got to ride much this year. my baby girl takes up most of my time but shes allowed. she is worth it. you are going to want to pack a lunch. im not sure whats all over around the area we are going, but i doubt there is much. i always bring my lunch with some snacks and drinks. i wish it was a little more like hatfield mccoy. you get on the roads and pull right up to a restaurant and go in and get some food. not at wayne.
hackattack
Hey guys...yeah Rick, I'd pack a lunch. I usually go to Kroger and get a bunch of lunch meat and some cheese and buns and we just make a cold meat lunch along with maybe some pudding and some chips or something.

There are restaurants around if we go to Dorr Run and/or Monday Creek...but that's only by vehicle. There's a Subway we stopped at before and bought some subs and saved them for lunch, which isn't a half bad idea.

Anyways, I'm thinking that we may just go park at the Monday Creek Trailhead or something versus driving up to Williams because it's $2.00 a vehicle to park there, plus they don't open until like 10:00 a.m. and I don't think there's anywhere else you can buy the passes before you get off at the Williams exit whereas all the gas stations, etc. in Nelsonville you can buy your passes down there. If we go into Nelsonville, we always stop at the Sunoco there on the corner in town right on 33 and fill up the toys/cans, etc...but everything is tentative right at the moment. I don't know, we could hang out until the camp store opens to get the passes because my buddy will need to buy one also.

trailrider19
just my opinion. i think we should just go to Dorr Run trailhead. looking at the map, it looks like that Williams place is a bit of a drive compared to Dorr Run. that would get us on the trail sooner and its just right off 33. very easy to find. Nelsonville is right down the road too.
hackattack
Wow...I checked out my map and didn't realize Dorr Run was that big! I have never ridden it...so didn't know how big it was.

So, here's what I'm thinking. I think we should just go to Dorr Run and ride the Dorr Run loop in the morning and then come back after one lap and eat lunch. I imagine that'll take an hour or two? Maybe we can do two laps...depending on how long it takes?

In the afternoon, I say we ride the main corridor all the way up and ride the New Straitsville loop...it's a pretty small loop but a LOT of fun and very easy terrain! That'll take all of 1-2 hours or so to ride up there and all the way back I would tend to say...but I'm not sure. I've never ridden the entire trail system before so I'm not sure how long it'll take. But, I know I've got all day to ride...so that's the plan!!! mhihi.gif

I'm sure things will change...they always do.

Shoot fellas, I am down for whatever, sounds good to me. Gonna start preppin the Z this weekend. Trailer is all finished and good to go. I am still coming solo. Leaving my house at 5:30am Sat... arrive at 9am (wherever we're goona meet) mhihi.gif . Maybe I can pick up some MTO food from Sheetz or something. Didnt really think hard about my plan yet. Definately have to get a one pass for Wayne somehow. I am sure gas stations sell them around there somewhere. I gotta get some tear-offs for my goggles . I have a feeling the mud is gonna be flying and people are gonna get roosted on. LMAO!!! Jim, Are there decent hillclimbs down there? Ben, I will give you a call as the days wine down!!!!
hackattack
Rick...you're in for a treat if you want hill climbs! :-) There are some pretty sweet ones up on the north end of the main corridor...those are the only ones that I'm positive about. I know there are some kick a$$ ones over on Long Ridge, but you have to truck over there and the trails are only probably 10 miles or so, so you can ride circles and circles and it gets boring quick.

But, anyways that's awesome about the trailer! I'm going to work on mine this weekend...going to get my removable wheel chocks buttoned up and that's about all I'm planning for the time being. I might get my jacks mounted and get the step put on too, but it's no big deal if I don't. Depends on what all else I have going on for the weekend. I've got the Z almost ready to go, all I gotta do is put one more bolt in the heel guard and change out the clutch adjustment bolt on the perch, mine is about shot. I've got the parts...won't take 10 minutes to do it all. I may put an oil change on the Z, but it's got fairly fresh oil so I'm ready to rock--chain is adjusted, checked and ready to go! Just needs oiled but I won't do that until we get down there. I don't have anything to do on the girlfriends 250EX...just gotta plug it in on the battery maintainer and charge the battery for a couple of hours, if it even needs it. The CRF just needs the chain tightened and oil checked, but I'll do all that next Friday when I'm off before we head out of town!!! Man, I'm getting pumped!!! I CANNOT wait!

Rick, we really should talk about where we want to meet. I'm thinking that I'll probably meet Jim somewhere down around where he lives right off of 33, maybe that'll be a good place for all of us to meet.

Jim, I'll shoot you a PM in the next day or so and we can pick a place to meet and then we can let Rick know.

trailrider19
i think im ready for next saturday. i took the quad out today and put it thru the normal stuff to see if anything wanted to break. nothing broke. yay!
hackattack
Haha, that's awesome! I'm going to trust that my '03 is just going to run like a champ...mhihi.gif

I haven't ridden it for a while. If anything I might take it up and down the road here at the house to see if she's going to run alright, but I trust that it will.

I just looked at the weather for next weekend...I know it's still too early to tell exactly what the weather is going to do, but right now they're calling for nice weather and 85!!! I sure hope it holds true! It's supposed to be Scattered storms there on Wednesday and Thursday, but that gives it Friday to dry out some--at least for me on the bike...mhihi.gif

Haha, yeah I agree with that! Wait 5 minutes if you don't like the weather...it'll change.

I just checked it again and it looks like down around your area is getting hit pretty good right at the moment. They're now calling for scattered Tuesday and Wednesday and dry the rest of the week...man I sure do hope that holds true.

Fellas, I have another person who wants to go. He already has his sticker on his ATV all he needs is a wayne pass. Its been raining hard here for about an hour then stops. The trails are gonna be nice with no dust....I hope. gonna look at the weather after I type this.

just saw the weather and it is looking great for saturday and sunday. no rain and mid 80s. thats good riding weather.

It can rain down there and still be wet a couple of days afterwards, but it's typically just the top layer and it's a little slick...but not too bad. I'm looking forward to it!!! mhihi.gif

What a great time!!! Made it home at 10:30pm. Trailrider, the way Mike took me home was waaaay faster. Mike & Mike are cool dudes. Hack , I hope Tony is ok. He looked over heated at the end of the day. The little lady did pretty good handleling that atv. I hope her migraine headache went away...Now for my buddy J.R. I have to look at his atv later on today. I still cant believe he tried to climb that hill on his 300ex... young kids are fearless. I cant wait to hook up and ride again.
hackattack
I just made it home from the weekend. I actually made it to the girlfriends house just after 9 last night...we went straight to bed, I was beat.

Tony was o.k....he was just a little irritated that he got lost and that I ripped into him when I finally found him. But, I later apologized and he said he understood so we left it at that. He was also beat because he had been up since about 4:30 p.m. on Friday since he had to work third shift. He slept just a little bit on the way home...but not much to really make a difference than make him more tired.

Overall, the day was a GREAT day! I hope to do it again soon...actually thinking about using the last weekend in September and going down again versus going to Hatfield, I don't think I can foot the bill for Hatfield right now. icon_frown.gif I'd love to go...but with the pay cut and all I just don't think i can foot it right now, unfortunately.

I will keep you updated though...hit me up when you're in town over Labor Day, I'm not sure what I'll be up to but I'm sure we can meet up sometime!

I will check out the pictures sometime and probably post them up tomorrow night or Tuesday night.

im glad you didnt get lost going home. i think i got home at about 7:20. then i hopped in my car and drove to Columbus to get my little girl from her mom. i still made it home and sat down in the rocking chair with the baby around 8:15. i had a blast. i think im getting better at remembering the trails and which one goes where. yeah ive known big mike and mike jr. for a long time. they are just like family to me. can you believe that old man is still doing this stuff? he is just a big kid. i wonder what time hack got home? i sure hope it dont cost too much to fix JRs bike. it was kinda messed up though. i got some pics that i will post up for all to see. haha. i am ready to ride again. just call me when you all want to go.

yeah, i dont ever remember saying that they suck though. i loved my banshee. i miss the damn thing. i just told him not to trade his 300ex for one. he was telling me some one wanted to trade him a banshee for his bike. i just said id never go back to the banshee from the Z. its not a big deal.
hackattack
I've always wanted a Banshee but I'd never sell a quad to buy one. I'd have to find a killer deal on one so I could only ride it when I wanted to. I'd probably take it as a back up quad if my main one broke...but I'd hate not having reverse. Although those two guys did pretty good on not needing reverse too much. I give credit to both of those guys...riding without helmets like they did and doing pretty good too!

yeah, ive been on their asses for a long time about wearing their helmets. they do some times though. i liked my banshee but i like the 4stroke power better. its easier to use. im just spoiled now and will never go back to kick start and no reverse. i do miss my banshee though.

Yeah, I know what you mean...I don't ride with any of my close friends unless they wear helmets and they do the same with me...I just don't know how someone does it. It's a good thing neither one of them got into any serious trouble. I was a bit scared when Big Mike rolled his over on top of the hill, but it's a good thing he also saved it otherwise we would've been peeling it back up off the ground like we did JR's.
