Full Version: Effects Of Bigger Tires

Im pretty sure if I get bigger tires the speedo on my Kingquad 450 and all of the other things will be off too. Am I correct? If so, this may sound stupid, but can I adjust it myself or is there anything I can use to adjust it?

Also, I know nothing about utility tires so what tire will not bog down my KQ and not wear down after driving 1 mile on a paved road?

hopefully some one reads this! mhihi.gif

umm, pavment, dirt roads, deep mud, heavy trails. it needs to be a at least a 6ply tire. i pretty much want an all around tire preferably stock size

We've got Mud Lites on our Rancher.
When we had the Arctic Cat, we just put some Executioner's on it. They are 6 ply and hold up good to nasty trails and pavement. Don't expect to spin in the mud though, they just hook.

maybe itp terra cross tires or maxxis bighorns, both good overall tires and wont be as hard on cv shafts

the only tires i would put on your bike is the itp mud light with 14 inch rim so the side wallas are stiffer and u have better control or u can put the maxxis zillas on it very good tire your problem will be payvment will wear tire fast

yep. atv tires just dont like the pavement at all. they are not made for on-road riding because they are off-road tires. i try to stay off the road as much as i can. it just eats em up. i would go with the itp mud lights. they are nice tires. i know people that run them on there sport atvs.

Yes your speedo will be off and if you have and odometer. Bigger tires will say your going slower. Odometer should read less miles too. Depending on how much bigger you go it will be off about 2-4 mph.

how can i adjust the speedo so its correct?

zillas? haha will they even fit? im not riding through that much mud!

If you get really wide tires it will suck turning

Theres got to be some sort of setup the dealer can access with the computer like a car. With an aftermarket one you might be able to set a size on the speedo itself. Yes wider tires will suck turning and if it's a solid axle the will wear faster. If I ever got new tires for the wifes they would be tall and narrow. Fat ones will float in the mud but won't dig.
Here is a speedo calculator I used. It was 100% dead on correct with the GPS I used.

I know that on my KQ700, the speedometer is a little optimistic with the stock tires. When I have the 25" Holeshot ATR's, the speedo is right on. The 450 is identical to the 700 other than the engine, of course.
