I have heard where guys that have mounted the FCR use the stock Z carb to box boot. I have also heard about how it won't work or it has fell aprt at inoportune times. I now have a solution to the stock Z intake tube.

GO to Home Depot and it the plumbing section look for what is called a fernco coupler

Here is a link to what they look like. Fernco coupler

Find the 1 1/2 to 1 1/2 coupler. Remove the band clamps from both sides. On one side trim off the little ridge that sticks up to hold the band clamp in place. put a lil weiner slider on this side and stuff it into the stock z boot until about an inch is the only thing sticking out. This will be a little bit of a fight but it can be done. on the other side I chose to champfer the inside for ease of install. Mount the boot to the box. Mount the carb to the head. Mount the intake boot to the carb. Clamp everything down and go roost.

One problem with it.
I tried this a while back.. The engine heat mixed with the soft rubber compound in the coupler makes it crack and pull apart.

It lasts a little while, but it will eventually split and cause intake leaks.

I used a piece of straight coolant hose, made by GATE's.
I got it from the Auto parts store I work at.
It has held up for right at a year and a half, whereas the Fernco lasted about 2 months.

Not to bash your idea, jsut don't be suprised when it splits.

Thanks for the heads up I will keep and eye on it. Did you do exactly as I did? It didn't have to stretch too much and the rubber was about 1/4 inch thick.

kinda got lost in your instruction, but I used it between the carb and head.

Between the heat and fuel soaking into it, it just kinda got soft and gave way.

I bought a section 1 3/4" dia. gas filler neck hose hose and trimmed it to the perfect length. Perfect diameter for the FCR39 to head boot. I have enough left to make 2 more boots. $5 shipped for each. This hose isnt cheap. I had to edit this, I wanted to post info... Its NAPA Gas Filler Neck Hose, Part #1035

The fuel will eventually break down the Rad hose. The bad thing is that it breaks in down slow and pieces of the hose will end up in you engine. Had a friend that used rad hose for a fuel filler and after 9 months the hose broke down and filled his fuel filter.

On the box side I think it will be fine. Not as much heat and very little fuel should ever come in contact with it.

Yeah, on the box side it should be fine. I was thinking you were using it for a carb to head boot.

The hose I'm using isn't the regualr thin coolant hose either.
It the braided stuff that's bout 1/4" thick.
So far it hasn't gotten soft whatsoever and it's been there for 4 times as long as the Fernco was.
But like any other custom mod, you just gotta keep an eye on it and make sure it's working.

this what you did? Not bashing at all but I'd be a bit worried about leaks and the boot coming off with vibrations and bumps.
IMO just spend the $20 and get the 400ex boot. Not sure how well it hooks up with the stock airbox but it can most likely be done with a bit of trimming

Camaro,

Add about 2 inches to the Fernco stuffed up in the LTZ Boot. TOnight when I had if off to fix my idle issue, I squeezed some silicon up in between the Fernco and the "Z" boot. No way it will leak now. I did get the 400 EX boot and it was the same exact size as the "Z" boot.

Like this. I tried to pull the Fernco out tonight before I siliconed the end of it and it would not budge.
