i dont get it. i jus put a new clutch is because i thought the other one was slipping. whats happening is when the engine is cold, clutch works, go into neutral and shifts fine. as the engine heats up it acts like the cable is stretching. so i adjust it tighter. works fine for a lil while and starts doing the same thing. i even had to move the arm on the engine farther out by 2 splines. its done the same thing with 3 clutches and 3 cables. just not near as bad. i put the cabon fiber clutch in with the stiffer springs that come with it. right now i have a streamline stainless braided cable. i have run out adjustment now. this is a new cable too. i ride on it. like i said earlier it was doing this before but it was hours before it needed adjustment. i have a msr clutch lever, its almost brand new too...put it and the cable on at the same time. maybe i put the Plates in wrong? i put the plate with the larger inside diameter to the inside. i put the different colored plate to the outside.

Possible worn clutch basket???

just throwing that out there.. im sure you looked at it.

Check your steels in the clutch pack. I got a new clutch a while back that the steels were warped and caused the same thing you're talking about.

Thanks for the replies guys. i think i may have found the problem. i took the streamline clutch cable out and compared it to a well worn motion pro cable. the streamline outer sleeve was an inch shorter and the cable itself was the same length as the motion pro cable. so basically its like haveing a one inch longer cable. plus the streamline inner sleeve was coming apart....makin it harder to pull...put the motion pro back on and it was like night and day. im not impressed with the first product i purchased from streamline. So my question now to you guys is who makes the very best braided clutch cable?
zophar
I've always used motion pro.
They arent braided I dont think, but they work well.

well I called majic racing last week about this (I read somewhere about the cables being wrong, like mine) and talked to them about this cable I bought from them. They told me there is no warranty. HUH? They told me to call streamline directly and see if they would do anything. When i hung up with them i was like wtf.gif are they serious? thats like us at work selling a defective part to a customer, then they come back to us to get it taken care of and we tell them....sir, sorry we cant help you with the part we just sold you...but you can call honda directly. Yea...mmmk. I'm ready to order up some more parts from them. yea.
anyway, I called streamline just to see what they say and he said send it back (while i'm cable-less mind you) and we'll look at it and probably send you another. Hopefully they dont send me another one jus like it mhihi.gif I hate to feel like im bashing majic racing, but dont you think they should have taken care of it? I mean RMatv always has...and i know they make the parts they sell...whats your take?
zophar
Working at an auto parts store, I understand what you're talking about. If we said that we wouldnt have customers.
Hopefully everything works out good for you though.

I figured i'd get bashed for bashing them...ive had good luck with them so far up until now...but really I never had to return something. I wont buy anything from them again. Case of the "bad taste in my mouth" is what i have now.

Did you tell them it was the wrong cable? Just say you bought the wrong one on accident..they should exchange it as long as you didnt "use" it..and if you did dont go in there saying YEAH I had it on the quad and drove it around x amount of hours..then they would NEVER refund it..

Ehhh, I'd hate to fibb to emm, and when they see the inner part sepearating, they will know its been used. Ima call them again and let them know this cable is too short. I called before i took it out and told them it was stretching. (that was my first thought)
Joshz400_03
well im not saying to fib, because in your first post you said it was new..but apparently it isnt..so idk why you are expecting a refund..

Nonono...it is new, got one (half actually) ride on it. i did buy it back in march, but as most of you know we had a baby 2.5 months ago and i havent been able to ride since i put it on...until yesterday when i could never get it to adjust correctly...when i put my new clutch in, I thought it was causing some problems...but not so. I just talked to matt at magic racing and he wants me to email him so pics of it. I dont think he quit understood what im talking about. At first he said aftermarket cables come an inch longer to compensate for longer steering stems. I could understand that. But thats not the issue i have here. The outer sleeve is actually and inch shorter with the cable inside being the same length as my stocker. I dont think he understood why there would be a problem there. maybe i didnt explain it well, i dunno. but in essence, the cable seems and inch longer to the bike because of excess cable hanging out. He said he never heard of any problem like that. So ima take some pics of it tonight and send them to him and he might get a better idea of what im talking about. They prolly wont give me another because of the length of time...but i never would have though i'd have an issue like this or else i would have checked it months ago. And really i'm not expecting a refund, i just want a correct cable. nothing more, nothing less. icon_biggrin.gif

Doesn't the different color clutch plate go on first? You might want to check that. The odd colored plate is a different size and needs to be the first one installed.

ok, what i had was an odd colored plate AND a skinny plate...same o.d., but larger i.d....the only note i had in the box pertaining to clutch plate order said this and exaxtly this...I'm typing from it:

"NOTE: the ODD plate(s) in this set, is to be installed at ends of clutch pack. First friction in, last friction out. These plates may be green or brown in color. This is to minimize wear on aluminum surfaces"

what do you make of that? I put the skinny plate in first and the colored plate last.

heres a pic of the streamline cable on top of my stock cable.

I jus talked to magic racing again. I am flustered. The guy is tryiing to tell me the inner cable is longer to compensate for longer steering stems. It doesnt take much thinking to see that aint gonna work. He said he has sold lots of those cables and never a problem, so mine should work. Duh...mines defective. Humans make errors. He offered me a refund if i still had the package it came in. yea...i hold on to plastic wrap for 6 months all the time. He was gonna re-sell this cable. I do wish i had the wrap so he could get bitched at about the same thing from another customer.

Well I called streamline and the fellow was extremly knowledgeable/nice. he said jus send it back and they will sent me another. the right length of course. mhihi.gif He knew exactly what I was talking about and understood why it wouldnt work. I feel a little relieved now.

I just intalled mine exactly as the factory one is installed. ON the barnett clutch the odd colored one was to be intalled first. I believe all of the other plates are the same.
