Hi guys...
Well as most of you know... im tearing my engine apart to change the casings...
well i was looking at some old pics of my bike when I had the Pulse charge exhaust on there... and damn the header part was very nice looking and clean and shined after being washed...
I was wondering is there anything I can buy to give my header part of my exhaust that "chrome" look... including "french chrome" which is chrome paint in a cam... (long story short) alot of french kids i see around spray paint alot of their car parts with it... and it looks horid... anyways back on topic..
I dont think i can even get my hands on paint to make it look like that since i would need heat paint... any other ways? or will it always just look like "bronze"
shoot me all your opinions and ideas! I want to change a few things on it looks wise including a front plastic cut.. and ill be sending my A amrs to get painted... which I have decided to paint bottom orange and top kawi green

Well first off if you polish it, it will turn back the gold and rainbow color in no time. you could send it ceramic coated, it will last a long long time.

Yea thats what my old man told me if i polished it... would just turn right back in no time...
How much does a ceramic coating cost... I was kind of looking for a cheap way... (like a 10$ can of paint) lol
wont have much cash.. especially if i go through changing out the cams like im hoping to do.
if there's no "cheap" way im fine with it... just something to do on the bike in the pass time since Im not riding it

well there is really no cheap way to do it where it will last more than a few minutes..lol. if you paint it, it will burn off in minutes and look horrible. i had some stuff done quite a few years ago on my race car by Jet-hot and it was fairly cheap. so i figure around 50 bucks to do your header if i had to guess (it may have gone up since the tho), but whats gonna get you is the freight. and you know how companies charge out the nose for freight to canada.

Depends what you think cheap is, if you think cheap is 10-20 buccs it's not going to happen. For that amount of money you could get some duplicolor or VHT high heat ceramic paint(1200 degrees) and spray it on in 3 layers, let it cure for about an hour, and then throw it in an oven on 350 for an hour and let it bake on. Make sure you do this in a well ventilated area, or when no one else is home

. It will not be a chrome mirror like finish though. This way will work, but will not last forever. Some parts of it may steam and flake off.
The best route is to get your exhaust chromed, nickel plated, or ceramic coated.

Chromed will still rainbow but ceramic will not. ceramic is the way to go, it will be shiny but not like chrome. i'll take a pic of an intake tube i had done on my car when i get home.

haha yea... my line of cheap was below 50$... thats for sure... if i need to pay big bucks ill do it when the exhaust is getting up in age and needs to be done... but right now its still brand new.... just I dont like the look of "brown" on my bike it just throws it off...
Yea freight to Canada is a MF... especially when it gets up there in size or wheight...
Actually... I did my bros stock exhaust all black including the can... with heat paint... it worked well and hasnt flaked... put it in the oven for a few min too... def stank the house though lol... good thing the parents where gone for a few hourse gave me time to spray a can of that smell good stuff and open all the windows lol....
did my rings on my rims too... worked decently.. though they are chipping from the rocks

i used that 1200degree engine enamel on my old banshee pipes. it turned out great. i sanded them first. then painted them. if you put the paint on a smooth surface it will come off easily. it still looked good when i sold it too. i havent seen them since though. i will get ahold of my buddy i sold it to and have him take some pics for me. as for my Z, i wrapped the header in black heat wrap. i like it. i think it looks good and it also keeps the heat from the header off my leg while riding. i dont have the heat shield on it.
here is what it looks like. this is even after some nasty muddy riding. i just use the hose on it when cleaning the rest of the bike. it cleans very easily.

be careful with the wrap cuz it traps in moisture.
anti-sieze works but it isn't shiny. depending on what type you get it is a chrome, aluminum, or bronzeish color

yeah. after i get done washing it i start up the quad and let it run till the wrap is dry. i havent been using it very long. i just was wanting to try it out for a long time and when i got my new system i figured that would be a good time to try it. its only been on there for a few months. what is up the the anti-sieze?

that head wrap stuff sucks in my opionion. DId it on my old exhaust, there is a melted spot on my boot from it, psh, spossed to cool it down my ass.
And it also voids warrenties on some exhausts, traps in moisuture, and causes some to rust.... unless the header are SS i think

yes that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. i dont know what kind you had that melted your boot but it seems it was some cheep crap. i ride my quad pretty hard and get it really hot and i havent had any issues at all. it can, if it is wrapped incorrectly, have hot spots where the wrap is too thick and cause problems like that. i have rode my quad around my yard in shorts and my leg touched the header with the wrap on and it didnt burn me. i like that. i like that it doesnt melt my pants when they touch it either. i dont feel like spending $80 on the HMF heat shield. $10 wrap works for me. also, i bought my system used so i dont worry about voiding the warranty. like i said in my other post, i have only had it on there for a few months and havent had any negative issues yet. i will keep an eye out for any problems though. just a tad more maintenance. oh well.

Ceramic coating it is the ONLY way to go. It will run you about $100+

i'll put up a picture of the headers on my car later done with anti-sieze. it smokes like a mother the first one or two times you start it up after that its baked on.

ah ok... the ceramic coat looks good... does it act like a heatshield too/ that wrap people put on their exhausts?? or more or less just looks
LTZguy
Sep 15 2009, 10:31 AM
Yes it sort of acts like a heat shield, but not as much as the wrap, especially if its coating inside too. ceremic coating is the shiznit. now i'm thinking about doing mine...

thats a bad a$$ looking quad. i can see enough of the header to see it looks pretty good with that ceramic on it.
