im going to try a hillclimb that is a moderately loose heavy sand mix for 300', then it turns into very steep very loose silt/sand at the top. my mx tires and swingarm are clearly not going to work!

the engine ill probably be running in it is mild, around 40 HP mark. if i can pull it back together in time the 55hp big boy will go in but i dont see it happening in time, so 40hp is what i want to base my tire selection on for now.

i know i need to extend the swinger, i have a stock one im going to use for that, no problem there.

im not afraid to admit that i have no experience with sand and paddle tires on the quads. soooooooooo...........the big question for me is what paddles should i be running in the rear? cheaper is best, because i am feeling the end of the season empty wallet! so, how many paddles, how big, what size, what brand....what tire pressure do you run them at....im clueless so any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

also if you have any cheap used ones, pm me a price shipped to 06437.

with a stock swingarm and enough power like say 40hp your going to find the front to be kinda light , wheelies will be easy , not what you really want but thats what you get with to much tire. having been down the road your talking about going i'd say skat trak extreams 20X10X8- 6 paddle , if you get some swingarm then up the paddle count and by all means lower the rear end.

oh yes i was going to chop and extend the stocker by about 10" or so. for mx i have it pretty low already, the frame at the footpegs is 7" off the ground.

so with a longer swinger would you suggest something like this: Skat~Trak Extreme Grip 21x12x8 (8 paddle)

I would use a 21 or 22" tall hauler with 7 or 8 paddles, especially for loose sand. you could get away with 6 paddle in dense sand, but i'd think you would spin a lil much in the loose stuff. being that your bike is lowered, that will help keep it down. I had 22" tall 7 paddle hauler on mine for the longest. I even ran my 10 paddles on my 400cc engine with good results. I believe a lil more paddle is better. If your motor can pull it up the hill, its way easier to go down a tooth in the front than if your spinning so bad up the hill your barely moving and you gotta change tires....plus it cheaper. and for your 55hp motor i would use a 10 paddle. or a 9 paddle if you didnt want that much bite. I would NEVER EVER use a 20" paddle for anything other than playing around. For that matter, i'd never use one anyway. The 21 or 22" tires are waay better. They dont dig as much, so they float on top of the sand alot better. of course this is my opnion as i have used many different tires so i can just tell you what i think.

10'' OMG thats way over kill , i find +4 all i have ever needed and i'm using 21x12x8 (8 paddle) and i have to want the wheels up or it dont happen, even on wet sand. i would like to try some 10 paddles some day even if they were 20's.

what sand do you plan on riding ?

its not really sand, more silt really. Monson Hill climbs in Monson Mass.

this video doesnt show the angle of the hill at all, but its the best shot of what the turf is like. the top part is VERY steep.
