The lowest appropriate octane for your motor is what will actually make it run best. Often people will waste money on high octane fuel when it is not called for and they will not experience better performance.
There is a reason why the manual recommends 87.
Yep, mine seems to run just as good if not better with plain old 87 fuel. I will run 91 in it during the summer when it's hot an muggy out....just to keep any detonation from hurting the motor. Not sure if it's necessarily...but it's cheap insurance.
Unless it's going to be over 90 degrees out...I run 87.
