I replaced my cam chain, tensioner, guides, piston and rings. After only 3 or 4 months, the chain is so stretched, the tensioner is extended completely out. All of the parts are suzuki, except the piston and rings. They are wiseco. Any ideas??

welcome to the site!
try a did chain. also it is mostly the tensioners fault. do a search on "acct spring mod" or "mcct mod" to get some ideas on how to fix it.

That was my thought, but why did the stock one last for 4 years and the suzuki replacement go out so fast?
Camaro1976
who installed it? it could be more ride time on it, tensioner installed incorrectly, bad luck, or a bad chain...

I cut a few coils off of my spring after reading that alot of people on here were doing it, I at least don't see what it could hurt as long as you don't take too many off.

Sounds like your tensioner was installed wrong. Also make sure you didn't burn up/melt the tensioner slide. The chains are known to wear out fast, but thats rediculous.

The slides all look brand new. I did check the tensioner. It was correct. I am baffled.

when you installed it....did you: take the bolt and spring out of the tensioner AND release the lock on the plunger? or did you just take the bolt and spring out thinking this is how you release it and put it back together with tension on the chain while tightening the tensioner back in its hole? I could see that being an oversight and that would cause your premature chain stretch. Also, have you installed drz or aftermarket spring? cams? both of those will cause extra stretch on the chain as well.

Yep. That was all done correctly. Is the wiseco chain heavier duty or is it just a stock replacement?
Flynbryan
I got a DID heavy duty replacement and mine has been great. Three years now and it has lasted fine even w/ the auto adjust. Hence the reason I have never seen the need to go manual.

Depending what you got, it was made by BWD. Which makes the chains for Wiseco, DID, and the stockers.
That is what happened when I got mine.
I am making the change to a 4/5 row chain this build, so I won't have to bother with it again.

I did some research and found something interesting. We've had a few 800 intruders in with only one of the cam chains stretched. The other is fine. The part number is the same part number on the ltz400. hmmmmm.

What would that mean?
