what compression will the stock starter, not start the motor thinking on going to 14.25 or higher if i can still start it and planing on going to +2 intake and exhaust valves
Camaro1976
you should be fine, especially if you have the stock cams with the decompressor or any cams with a decompressor. if you got a set without a decompressor, as long as you get it tuned well it should still start fine
NormalZ
If you run 14:1 or higher with some cams with no decompression device on them, you'll need to use a 190 CCA battery. That comp ratio will kill stock-type batteries left and right.

Have you done much research on going to the +2 valves yet? I would think that at that size, obviously dependent on the bore size you are running, that the flow will start to be restricted by the cylinder walls. Just something to keep in mind.

no i want to build a 500 with +2 valves but dont know wut comp ratio to go with max power said they can go up to 16.5:1 but when derek built the 530 he said he couldnt start it with out pull starting it

let me point something out to you. say you where gonna go 13 to 1...that seems like alot less headache than 14 or 15 to one. Keep in mind compresion does make more power....but does it make sense to gain that extra 1/2 hp and causing yourself all kinds of grief and headache? I would think not. keep it around 12.5 to 13.5 and you'll be fine. you'll thank me later.
believe me, i'm one thats famous for splitting hairs and trying to do every little thing i can to get more power...but when it inconveniences me, thats where i draw the line. its not worth it bro...look at derek...i think he got tired of having to pull start it to ride it. is that worth .5 hp? its not worth 2 even 3 hp to me.
