I took my LTZ400 to a machinist to get the oil reservoir tank drain plug tapped out because it was stripped. I left it in his hands and he ended up drilling out the crankcase. He ended up replacing the whole bolt which of course had the magnet on it. How important is that magnet? I wasn't really impressed but I had no idea two plugs existed either when I first seen the bike so I can't say to much. Basically all I am asking is will there be anything wrong with this magnet not being there?

i believe the magnet is there to keep the plug from falling into the oil when it reaches its last thread....but mine is stock and it doesnt have a magnet on it.....lost a washer one time from my oil inlet which fell in my oil, i didnt find it until 2 weeks later when i got the cylinder back from the shop to be bored and sleeved. i just couldnt figure out why i kept leaking oil when i knew the damn bolt was tight.....guess there was two washers for the oil inlet.

pretty sure its to hold any metal chunks that could go through the motor and cause damage.

So this machinist drilled out the bottom of your motor instead of the oil tank? Did he flush it out?

I'd be pissed! I would suggest getting that hole bored out and sleeved. Then retap the sleeve for the correct bolt threads.

That is the correct answer.

Did he flush the engine? Although im not sure flushing it is going to be enough.
