I just traded my zx6r for an 04 ltz400. I have replaced the timing chain, and switched over to a manual cam tensioner. After replacing the chain and putting everything back together i went to start it and it was doing the usual trying to crank over. I kept trying then stopped for about 2 minutes and went to start it up again and now nothing the starter switch will not do anything. Its getting a spark, its getting gas, and tried starting it by jumping it and it tries to start. the fuse is good i have no idea what the problem is. PLEASE HELP!! wtf.gif

You might check and make sure the cams are timed right.

Well its an 04 so its old I have an 03. You should check valve clearances to be sure your valves are not cupped which is common in the Z's if your clearance is Zero there is why its not starting. There is a pinned topic somewhere about how to check the clearance if you are unsure.

I think the motor has to be at TDC on the compression stroke so all valves are closed. You can then take a feeler gauge between the cam and the valve. I will look around the site for the specs but if there is NONE you have a problem with your valves.

Did the Z Run when you traded? or is this a new problem?

yea it ran but when it was idleing you could here the cam chain knocking like crazy and when i went to replace the chain i found that the tensioner was bad so i ordered the mcct from here. I have a feeling the timing isnt lined up right. But im gonna check the valves too just incase. thanks
