i've been running the same oil from before my 13.5:1 wiseco piston and have been fine. right now im switching over to Rotella T diesel oil. its cheaper and better quality. but whatever oil you choose, just make sure you got the right weighted oil. with the 20w-50 i have in it right now, im pushing it to the limit and need to move down to at least a 15w since its getting below freezing now.
kalealmighty
so probably 20w 50?

in the next few months, what is the coldest temperature gonna be? and whats the hottest?
zophar
I would say 10-40 for CA.
Maybe 15-40 in the summer.
But 10-40 should be fine for winter riding.
I raced with 15-40 in it, and 10-40 both. Really didn't have any adverse effects from either one.

yea, i wouldnt go any higher than 15 during the winter, but during the summer i like using 50 just in case it does get that hot or incase i go somewhere like the dunes or in arizona or death valley where it's HOTTER THEN HELL!!! for me, i would prefer a 10w-40 or 5w-40......i'll just have to watch the temperature.
kalealmighty
the hottest i have ever ridden in was 112 and it was sand dunes it was insane but coldest it probably drops down near freezing sometimes in the dunes at night
Joshz400_03
I have always run suzuki 20w 50 in the warm and if I ride at all during the winter (below 30*) I will run 10w 40

if its only as low as 30* then you'll be fine with 20w-50, but if it gets any colder than that you should be looking into 15w or 10w.
